Chapter two :The accident

The Golden light hospital usually close by 10pm on the dot.

But it's half past 10 and the Laboratory lights were still on!.. Inside the Lab, a young man with fluffy golden hair, blue eyes and snow white skin, wearing a Lab coat and a face mask, sat on a stool looking into a microscope.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door, accompanied by creaking sounds of the door opening, "You're still researching Evan?" A feminine voice was heard.

Evan paused whatever he was doing and turned, removing his face mask "Ava! You're still here?"..

Ava smiled and approached him "Of course! I had a feeling that you haven't left yet.. I mean, you promised that we'll walk home together today but I haven't seen you leave the Lab since today... I spent 2 hours waiting for you at the gate but I didn't even caught a glimpse of your shadow" Ava pouted, feeling grieved.

" Oh....uh...." Evan scratched the back of head, staring back and forth between Ava and the microscope. I know I promised Ava we'll walk home together today but.... I'm so close discovering a cure to this hanta virus!.. ah! What to do?!....

He thought for a while and then sighed heavily, finally making a decision "Look Ava, I'd love to walk home with you today but it's just that I'm so close to...." He paused, took a glance at the microscope and then back at Ava "you understand, don't you?"....

Ava sighed and gave a sad smile "I understand... It's for the betterment of the country... Well I guess some other time then..."

Evan sighed in relief and grinned widely " Really?.. Thank you Ava for understanding... You really are a true friend"..

Ava also got blinded by that beautiful smile of Evan but then her mood crashed when she heard him say 'True Friend'..  She scoffed sadly and thought in her heart, you think of me as just a friend while I... hope everyday that you'll one day see me as more.

Evan was oblivious about Ava's thought as he was seriously staring into the microscope, studying the virus reactions. He didn't even spare a glance when he heard the door close shut. He stared for minutes and finally stood up, grabbing two tubes, one with a pink liquid and the other in green, and mixed it into an tube, conjuring a weird coloured liquid.

He then took some of the liquid with a slim suction tube and applied it on the glass plate under the microscope, where the virus is on..

Staring into the microscope, he saw that the virus didn't react at first. He sighed heavily, wanting to quit for today and call it a night when suddenly, he noticed a slight reaction from the virus. He sat down back watched immensely as the virus suddenly started twitching violently and tossing and turning uncontrollably until finally, It shrinked and then disappeared..

Evan gasped in shock and surprise and relief, I.. I can't believe this!!... I really did it!!!.. I found a cure!! Oh my goodness!! Haha yes!! Whoa!!

Evan stood up and did a little victory dance before hurriedly searching his drawer, bringing out a long Notebook and quickly scribbling words of his discovery on it. When he was done, he placed the notebook back on his drawer, along with the tightly sealed tube of newly found cure to the hanta virus..

He sighed heavily and stretched. Taking off his Lab coat, he hung it on a hook protruding out of the white hospital walls. He grabbed his bag, locked the Lab doors and finally headed downstairs.

He was surprised to see Pete, the security man, still there. "Pete! You're still here?"...

Pete scoffed and snorted "I would have gone a long time ago but Mrs Ava pleaded that I should give you more time, that you're working on something very very important"...

Damn! I better start thinking about how I'm gonna repay Ava... Evan thought..

He scratched the back of his head and laughed nervously "Well... She wasn't lying about that..".

Pete scoffed and crossed his arms " Well just hope that whatever it is, it was worth wasting my time!"..

Evan hurriedly nodded " I assured you that it was for a good cause"..

The two stared at each other for some time until Pete finally yelled " Well are you gonna stand there and wait for me to get your car or you want to stand here doing a staring contest with me?!!!"..

" Oh!.. uh!... Yes!.. right... right... Sorry about that!" Evan stuttered and quickly dashed out to his car. He got in and ignited it. Pete sighed heavily, shook his head and calmly opened the gates for Evan as He drove out.

"Thank you!! And sorry for wasting your time!! Have a nice evening!" Evan yelled out through the window, waving at Pete.

" Ah! That kid ah... " Pete shook his head and smiled..

Evan sighed heavily and calmly drove to his house, which is 30 miles from Golden light hospital. He was still excited about his new discovery, This calls for a celebration!!.. He smiled widely and increased his speed a little.. He was thinking about the reactions of others when they discover that he found a cure to the Hanta virus when suddenly, A huge truck came out of nowhere and just hit his car with full force, Causing the car to somersault severally in the air before crashing down with full force. The car was damaged beyond recognition.

Evan gasped in pain as he saw his life flash before his eyes. His chest was impaled with a big broken glass and he was losing a lot of blood. Scratches, cuts, wounds, filled his body. His legs were so broken to the extent that a sharp piece of bone was sticking out. Blood flowed freely from his mouth as he felt his consciousness slowly slipping away. He weakly opened his mouth to say a word but couldn't because his throat was impaled with glass as well, and more blood flowed out the more.

Soon he heard approaching footsteps and loud claps. The figure got close to the car, where Evan was trapped and paused. Soon the figure started laughing hysterically.

That... Voice..

Then the figure stopped and finally spoke up "You know, I've always hated you.. You took everything from me.. the spotlight, the praises, the attention and even... Even the one I loved!!"..

That.. voice... It's.. Zane..

Zane took a deep breath and growled "I loved Ava with all my heart, my soul, my everything.. I tried so hard for her to notice me, to notice my feelings. Just when I finally succeeded in getting just a little bit of her attention, you came along and destroyed all my hard work!!"..

Zane paused and breathed in, calming his emotions a little before continuing" Well now, the tables have turned! With you out of the picture, I get back everything that was meant to be mine and also... My Ava"..

He approached the damaged car, hands in his pocket. He smirked as he caught sight of a bloodied mess of an Evan Harris "You know, I'm sorry things had to turn up this way but... You gotta do what you gotta do when it comes to getting what you want.. Goodbye forever, Evan Harris!" He laughed and left the scene..

Evan couldn't believe it! Zane you bastard!!... If I... ever... survive this... I'll make...you... Suffer... ten.. times worse!... I'll... I'll...I...

Evan breathed his last as he finally blacked out......
