age seven
Luke was over at the Irwin's without the company of his mother since he was spending the night. Plus, Liz had to run into work for an emergency and it was better than hiring a baby sitter. Luke enjoyed this much better than anyone else watching him. Him and Ashton were still very much inseparable.
As she left, she kissed her son's forehead quickly and mumbled a 'have fun' even though she knew he would anyways. Whenever she'd talk with him after being with Ashton, he always tell her stories of them and how much he enjoyed spending time with the hazel eyed boy.
Luke was left with Anne in the center room as she called Ashton out of his room so he could greet his best friend. A couple of seconds later you could hear heavy footsteps and loud yelling down the hallway.
"Luke! Luke! Luke!" He chanted, speeding as fast as he could to see the boy he missed the most. It had been a couple of days since they last saw each other and for them, it felt like years.
"Ash!" Luke squealed once his eyes focused on the brunette.
Ashton opened his arms so the two of them could hug. Luke practically leaped into his friend's embrace as they held each other tightly. They slightly swayed to the faint sound of their heart beats joining together for a good minute before stepping back, realizing that Anne left to most likely give them privacy.
Ashton grabbed the blonde's hand, leading them into the backyard where they were met with Ashton's dad and a whole bunch of tools they didn't know the names of.
"We're building a treehouse!" Ashton shouted, jumping slightly in excitement.
Luke smiled widely, walking to the various tools scattered on the grass. Ashton's dad explained to them that him and his son started yesterday to get a head start so now they only have half the work today. Luckily for them, his dad was handy with tools and wood so he knew what he was doing.
Many hours passed and numerous snacks were devoured before the three boys were called in for dinner which signaled that this was a stopping point for today. Anne had made pizza with bacon and chicken for toppings, knowing it was the boys' favorite.
After dinner and ice cream floats, the two best friends raced to Ashton's room. Since the two visited each other so often and were at the other's house as much as their own, they both left clothes at the other's house. They dressed into pajamas quickly and ran back to find Ashton's mom to ask if they could watch a movie.
Anne agreed since bed time wasn't for another three hours or so. Walking to the movie bin the kept by the tv, she pulled out Lion King and held it up in front of the boys as suggestion. They both vigorously nodded their heads in response before laying down beside each other on the couch.
"Lukey, who's your favorite animal in the movie? Mine is Pumba!" Ashton asked and gave his own answer, smiling as his mother put a blanket over the two.
"Umm, I think mine is Scar!" Luke replies. Ashton gasps.
"Scar?! Why would you like Scar? He's so mean!"
"I don't know. I like his scar."
"That's not a very good reason. Do you like Simba?"
"Yeah." Luke answered, putting an end to the conversation as the movie began. He comfortably placed his head on Ashton's shoulder and peacefully sighed.
When the movie finished, Anne ushered the boys out of the living room and into their bedroom where they were tucked into bed by both Ashton's mother and father. They weren't tired so they just lied in bed silently before Luke spoke up.
"Ashton?" He asked, looking into Ashton's eyes as they faced each other.
"Yeah, Luke?"
"I'm not sleepy."
"Me too."
Ashton scooted closer to his friend, their noses touching as they studied each other's faces.
In the dark lighting and complete silence besides their soft breaths, the two of them felt so oddly comfortable being this close together. It was as intimate as any two seven year olds could have it be. Luke blinked slowly, never wanting to take his eyes off the beautiful boy in front of him. He's questioning how a boy could be so pretty. His daddy always talks about how Luke will find a girlfriend one day but what if he doesn't want a girlfriend?
The two of them are underneath the comforter and sheets of Ashton's race car bed set. Ashton bravely intertwines his legs with the blonde's and scoots his body towards Luke's, leaving no space in between. Feeling awkward with his arms by his sides, Luke places his petite hands on the hazel eyed boy's chest as Ashton wraps his arms around the other's waist.
"I love you, Ash." Luke admitted, remembering his mom tell him that you say that when you care a lot for a person. And for Luke it was true. He couldn't imagine life without his best friend by his side. It was hard for them to go a week without visiting each other.
"I love you too, Lukey." Ashton replied, smiling widely. In the back of the brunnete's mind, visions of his parents showing affection to each other played. He remembered asking his mom why she would kiss his dad and she always said, "You won't understand it now, but when you really love someone Ashton, you show them with everything you have."
Ashton wanted to show Luke that he loved him, he just wasn't sure how. They hugged all the time, but for some reason he felt like that wasn't enough and Luke might not know he truly cared for him.
Luke recalls a time when him and his dad was watching a movie together and an intense kissing scene came on before his dad quickly changed the channel. He wondered why those people did that but now he thinks he knows. Kissing means you love someone, right? Him and Ashton already did it once, but it was on accident so it doesn't really count.
The two eventually fell asleep with the thought of the other in their mind. They get a lot better sleep when they're with each other because the nights they're not together, they grow sad at the fact they don't have their best friend by them. Tonight, they're okay because they're as close as they can be.
