The bell rang a second time.
Kora rushed through the hallway to make it to homeroom. The door was already open, so she slowly walked in. Trying to catch her breath, she heads to the back like she always does.
"Hey" she says to her best friend.
"What happened? Aren't you usually the first one here?" Bethany asks in her usual sarcastic tone.
Bethany is one of those people that never seems to care much about anything. School is just another step in the road for her, unlike Kora. They say opposites attract, I suppose that's true for friendships too.
"My dad had an early shift, so I had to take the bus, and of course it was late." Kora responds, rolling her eyes.
Dr. Morgan finally looks up from his computer. He is probably the coolest teacher on campus. He was an astrophysicist for a small tech startup that failed miserably. He couldn't land a job at NASA or anywhere else and ended up here.
"So what do you guys think of the video I told you to watch yesterday?" He says excitedly.
Everyone is quiet, it's way too early for a bunch of 17-year-olds to get into another discussion about the known galaxies.
"I thought it was cool," Kenneth says. The whole class immediately turns to look at him.
Kenneth rarely speaks up in class. He turned eighteen earlier that year. Forget all the cliques, people fall into two categories in high school. First, there are the social butterflies and others seem to just come here to learn. Kenneth is one of those rare few that toggles between the two. He's popular, but keeps to himself for the most part. He has dark hair, green eyes, and a lean yet toned body. He'll fit right in as a freshman in college next year. Even Dr. Morgan is surprised to hear him talk, so he doesn't press him further.
"Good, I'm glad you enjoyed it, he said. Anyone else would like to add to that?"
No one answered, and Kora rolled her eyes again. She was so over the prep school thing.
