Early that same morning, Kenneth and his family sat down for breakfast. Kenneth struggles to make eye contact with his sister. Meanwhile, she acts like nothing happened and goes on about the new designer bag she wants to get. Their parents always complain about her spending habits and then turn around and give her what she wants. On the surface, Kenneth is a simple guy: he goes to school, hangs out with friends, and plays video games. His sister always seems to get caught up with the popular crowd, while he doesn't care that much about fitting in. Although he's not exactly a pensive guy, he often wonders if there is more to life than what he's used to. He tries not to think too much about yesterday, and how nonchalant his sister is about everything, but most of all, he tries not to think about Kora. How pretty she looked in the car, and why he never noticed. She is one of those girls that guys can't help but notice, so why didn't he? Before he could get lost in his thoughts, his mom asked him to pick up something for her after school. He agrees, grabs his bag, and leaves early for school.
After parking his car and making his way to homeroom, he spots Kora and Bethany laughing as two best friends should. He wonders what could be so funny. Maybe they are laughing about what happened yesterday. What if Kora told her about his sister, and a rumor started to spread? He starts to get paranoid again, and their laughter becomes a threat. He has to talk to Kora again and this time a part of him is looking forward to it. His friend Roger bumps his shoulder, forcing him out of his head.
"Dude, can you believe it's Friday?" his friend asked.
"Yeah, I'm playing video games all day tomorrow" Kenneth answered back.
Roger was one of those guys that everyone wanted to be around. He never had a hard time making friends and the girls always laugh at his jokes. Kenneth often wishes he had such a talent, but he's more what people would describe as the "strong, silent type". He doesn't seem to be aware of the impact he has on people. How most girls in his grade secretly hope that someone like him will look their way. Unlike his peers, he plans to get through the last year of high school with as few attachments as possible. He dated Mirinda for most of last year, and things ended so bitterly that he decided to put off relationships for a little while.
After the bell rings for the first period, he makes up his mind that it's best not to confront Kora after all. The last thing he wants is to offend her again, and besides, he doesn't want to start liking her now.
