(No POV Leaf Village Hospital)
A few hours had passed, and currently, right now in the hallway, the members of Team 10 were gathered outside of a room that held the knocked-out and unconscious Asuma, who had just come out of surgery. Even though he had been healed, he still had some internal damage that required surgical intervention. By his bedside was Kurenai, who had yet to leave his side since he came out of surgery.
Footsteps echoed down the hallway, and at the end appeared Yato, who had just finished up some other work and came to check in on Asuma.
"How is he doing?" Yato asked, looking over at Shikamaru.
"He's... alive thanks to you, Lord Fifth, but he still suffered a lot of internal bleeding. The doctors say he should be fine, but... he's in a coma," Shikamaru said solemnly. Asuma and Shikamaru had come to the hospital together; the more experienced ninja had passed out upon arrival.
"I see. Well, how are your injuries, Shikamaru?" Yato inquired, concerned for the young man.
"Nothing too bad. I'm fine, just worried about Asuma," Shikamaru replied, glancing towards the door leading to his mentor's room.
Just then, the door opened, and Kurenai emerged. Her hair covered her eyes as she walked over to Yato.
To everyone's shock, Kurenai, not holding back, slapped Yato dead in his face, causing the others to gasp out loud at what they had just seen. She then did it again for the second time, slapping him again, which made everyone even more shocked.
Kurenai had slapped the literal Fifth Hokage, the one and only "Uchiha Grim Reaper," dead in his face, but he didn't react at all; he looked down with his hair covering his eyes.
"You... You... This is all your fault! You sent him on this mission to fight these damned rogue ninjas! Why couldn't you do it?! Why couldn't you deal with these ninjas?! Why?!" Kurenai asked as she then punched Yato in his face.
Shikamaru quickly went to stop Kurenai, pulling her away from Yato, who still hadn't even reacted.
"Kurenai-sensei, please... just stop," Shikamaru said to Kurenai, trying to get her to calm down. To everyone's surprise, instead of getting mad or upset with the red-eyed woman, Yato did something that made their eyes go wide.
Yato then bowed to Kurenai, showing that deep down, he truly was apologetic for what had happened.
"You're right... indeed you are right, Kurenai. This is all my fault. Whatever rage you have towards me, you are within your right to have it, but for now, I promise you this: those rogue ninjas are not going anywhere," Yato said as he pushed his hair out of the way, showing his eyes.
With Yato's eyes filled to the brim with nothing but determination, Kurenai, with Shikamaru, Choji, and Ino, knew that the man standing in front of them would keep his word.
Shikamaru gripped his fists as deep down, he was the one who wanted to get revenge for his sensei, which is something that Yato quickly caught onto but didn't say a thing.
"I will take my leave now. Just stay by Asuma," Yato said as he then left the group, which after a while, Kurenai had then gone back into Asuma's room to be by his side.
Yato, on the other hand, walked out of the hospital and looked up at the sky, letting out a sigh.
"I'm glad Tsunade didn't come; she might have actually been pissed and done something worse if she had seen Kurenai do that to me in front of her," Yato thought to himself, knowing that Tsunade might have done something crazy.
"Old man, it seems I pissed off your future daughter-in-law. I think I understand what you felt when you had to watch as the ninja of the Leaf go off and come back harmed. If I hadn't sent those scrolls with my shadow clone within them, what would have happened?" Yato asked himself as he continued walking until he heard someone call out his name.
