Two things!

1. I'd like to sincerely thank @FesterBlades for helping me write this pivotal chapter.

2. This chapter contains a scene that may be uncomfortable for some readers . I'll denote it with ***.

All right, here we go!!

Emma lay listlessly against the cold ground, her mind drifting in a dazed semiconscious state. She yearned to sleep, to close her eyes and fully welcome the comforting darkness, but something kept prodding her. A voice ringing through the clouded haze of the dart's effect, crying at her not to fall.

Wake up Emmaline! Wake up!!!

Emma twitched as the voice's pleading. It cut though her ebbing consciousness like a sharpened knife through flesh.

You must wake up my darling!!! Hurry!

Emma shuddered. It was a voice she'd never heard before, a woman's voice full of desperation and panic. It poked and goaded her like a rider with their tired mount, until she grasped hard at her consciousness, stirring herself out of the fog. She opened her eyes to the burning dusk and a quartet of occult vampires.

"You lying bastard, you said that would knock her out!" One raged.

"That was enough to keel a horse!" Snapped another. "The little bitch is tougher than we thought!"

"Emmaline!" Amalie cried. "Emmaline I'm right here, you need to get up!!"

Emma saw her own mother bound by ropes imbued with brimstone and flanked by two vampires, the eclipse brandished on their foreheads. Erzsebet's disciples succeeded where her own son could not.

Emma fumbled on her knees attempting to stand and run, only to find a musket loaded between her eyes. "I wouldn't try it Nephilim, not unless you want your mother's legs broken in half."Nikolai warned. "Normally I'd shoot her and bring you to Erzsebet alone, but apparently killing an angel frees it from the limitations of its flesh. You be a good daughter and-."

Emma sprung like a cat and slashed Nikolai across the face, gouging his eye out. The vampire howled in pain and Emma dashed past him towards her mother with a newfound strength, only to collapse beneath a chain net digging into her skin and sapping the strength from her body. Emma tussled and writhed like a trapped cat , bearing her teeth in an animalistic hiss attempting to break loose.

"Emma don't fight it!" Amalie screamed. "It's brimstone! The more you struggle the more it'll drain you!" A vampire knocked her in the back of the head. "You bastards let her go!! You want a prize for your Messiah? Take me! I'm the best reward she'll ever get!"

"Unfortunately for you, impure Messenger, the Messiah wants you both." Nikolai covered the side of his bloodied face, pointing his musket-axe at Emma snarling within the net. "So this is what you get when an angel fucks the son of Dracula. Feisty little vixen. Erzsebet will get much enjoyment out of you."

He chuckled. "But first, we've got a family reunion to attend." Nikolai turned to one of his cronies. " Haul the Nephilim on a horse and tether the angel." He barked in command. "If her whore mother tries to escape or fights back, break the half-breed's ribs. She'll heal by the time we bring her to Erzsebet."

Amalie surrendered, lowering her head and letting the vampire crony push her ahead while the other tethered her to the horse's saddle.

"Fools."

Amalie's glyphs prickled hearing the uncanny chill in Emma's voices. The Nephilim lay motionless in the brimstone net, her sharp golden eyes pinned lividly on the vampires. "You infidels have no idea what you're doing! You follow a 'messiah' who will only bring death, and when you perish, Ammit will be waiting to FEAST on your sinful souls!!"
