Had Amalie entered the Abbey now, she would have found a cold, empty box. Like a body without a soul, a husk. The presence of night creatures and the Abbot's blasphemous actions desanctified the once holy space. In the back of his mind, the Abbot understood this, yet in frenzied denial he stuck to his task. On the altar lay his wedlock daughter, bound and gagged, her eyes wide in terror at the knife in his raised hand."And God said, 'Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering.' The Abbot tearfully recited. " And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife."
The door burst open and the heroes charged in, weapons bared and fire in their eyes. A slew of the Abbot's most loyal night creatures met them in combat.
The knife trembled in the Abbot's hand. "And Isaac said 'My father.' And he said, 'Here am I, my son.'."
Tera charged to the altar with an icy spear, barred by a moth-like night creature she gutted it through. "It's not God you've surrendered to, Emmanuel!" Again she ran to her daughter's rescue, blasting the Abbot back with a gale. She gripped the ice knife ready to cut Maria free.
"And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son!" The Abbot tackled his former lover.
God spared Isaac!" Tera pinned him to the ground beneath her.
Abbot Emmanuel trembled, looking upon her in despair. " Where is the ram, Tera? Why didn't God send a ram to die in her place? Or an angel to stay my hand?
"God sent you an angel and you chose to imprison her!" Tera was knocked off him by a harpy night creature, and Richter came to her aid. Together they dispatched the beast and others with their inherit magic, giving Tera the chance to run and free Maria
Tera cut Maria's bounds, removing the gag, and the two embraced in sheer relief.
"I'm sorry." Maria gasped
Tera held her closer. "You're safe. That's what matters." They glared at the fallen Abbot." You think this will save your church? A pact with the devil?" Tera glared.
"The revolution will raze all your churches to the ground and salt the fսcking earth!" Maria bellowed.
"That book does not belong to you." The Abbot panted, steadying himself on his feet."This blasphemy will not go unpunished!"
The duo walked away from the Abbot's minuscule threat.
Night creatures came to their master's defense. Mizrak noticed a cloud hovering above him.
"We can kill every one of your pets, or you can surrender." Richter threatened. "Let us do what we came here for."
"It's you that should surrender." Emmanuel persisted. "There are powers at work here of which you can only dream.
"Yeah? Well, all I see is a whole load of dead night creatures. And dead monks. And I haven't even broken a sweat." Richter boasted with his family by his side. "Annette, go!" He ordered, and the mage sped for the cellars intent on freeing the divine and defeating the damned.
Tera quickly red from the spellbook. Her eyes went black and the air trembled around them all
"Blasphemy upon blasphemy!" cried the Abbot.
"Pray with me." Approached Mizrak. "Pray to God for this horror to end."
"You should have taken Maria and run." said the Abbot.
"I wish you'd stop talking." Richter tensed eager for a fight. If Emma were there, she he would've told him to take it down a notch.
Sweat ran down the Abbot's face. "Have you forgotten the eclipse? Did you think it meant nothing, the eating of the sun?"
