Emma settled her nerves with a full stomach and good company."Thank you again. Tera. This is delicious." She set her fork on her plate and politely wiped her mouth. She had returned Maria and Richter to Tera's house and was about to leave for home down the road when Tera urged her to stay for dinner.
Of course, it was impossible to say no. Humans live short lives, and Emma vowed to enjoy their remaining time with her. It certainly helped Tera was Emma's own family, descended from her daughter, Rosie.
Shortly after Emma helped set up the table, there came a knock at the door. "I'll get it!" Emma opened the door to her mother, a beautiful young woman in a peasant dress, a dark worn cloak, and holding a wooden staff in her hand.
"I see you're holding my daughter hostage again." Amalie chuckled mirthfully, setting her cloak and staff on the wall. Tera welcomed her ancestor with open arms, and after they hugged, greeted Emma with a firm hug and a kiss on her cheek.
"See, I told you she'd worry. You know my Mom." Emma blushed.
"I have reason to worry." Amalie tapped her foot, crossing her arms at her much taller daughter. "Vance told me you had an encounter with vampires. Are you okay? Do I have to go hunting and crack some skulls?"
"I'm am, Mother." Emma chuckled and nuzzled Amalie's forehead. "Maria, Richter, and I took care of them. We got everyone home safely."
"Good." Amalie sighed relieved .
They ate dinner together in peace and merriment. Amalie was the happiest in the world among the family of her own bloodline. She was the only Mal'akh in existence who could make that claim; From her first love, the human warrior Aurelius, came the lineage of the Belmont Clan and Richter. From her husband, the legendary Alucard and the son of Dracula, came Emma and her descendants, Tera and her daughter Maria.
Only Tera and Emma knew the matriarch of their entire family sat among them, and that she was an angel in human form. Yet there was an ongoing discussion among the three for the past few weeks about figuring a time to reveal the truth to Richter and Maria. The two already knew Emma and Amalie's relationship with each other , and that they were much older than they appeared, so it wouldn't be as huge a shock when they learned the full story.
However, there were more urgent matters to discuss tonight. That great secret and its potential outcomes would have to wait a little longer.
"You visited the Abbot?" Amalie asked surprised. "What did he have to say about it?"She wasn't convinced by their answer. "Yeah, don't expect to get any help from him." The angel said sourly. "I've told him my suspicions of the Marquis two years ago, after our little cave rescue, and nothing ever came from it. I suspect he knows something's up, but he won't do a thing about it."
"The Abbot wouldn't turn a blind eye to vampires." Tera disagreed.
"I doubt it." Emma grumbled. "He didn't seem concerned about the attack or our suspicions, rather amused by it. His words sounded like empty promises."
"You spoke with the Abbot too Em?" Amalie's eyes widened.
"Yes." Emma said unremarked.
"Inside the church?"
"Yes."
Tears flowed from the angels eyes. "You went inside a church, Emmaline..."
