Cafeteria East Campus, 10.30 am.
“I get it I get it... you need someone to practice talking in public. Is this related to assignments or what?” Lune was curious. “It must be an individual assignment, isn’t ? If not, you already asked someone else to present it, right?”
The last question from her was casually asking, trying to light up the awkward air between the of them. She didn’t expect him to nod, indicating he did want to do that. I was joking though... this guy... to what extent, he doesn’t want to speak in public?
“I can’t forever ask someone to present for me but that’s not the big deal here. My father ordered me to give a talk during the opening of our faculty Open Day... this might sound ridiculous, but I never talk in public like in a big audience or actually I never talk in a small audience also...” As he explained, his voice was getting smaller since he felt embarrassed that his situation of him was pretty lame to be asking for help. This is what happens when I keep indulging myself in my own comfort zone. In addition, his family has always been a bigger, stronger party so no one of the rest ever dared to critique him of doing that.
“People around you must be spoiling you a lot... how can you not be even once speaking in front of everyone in class? That means you never present any of your assignments in front of class, right?” Wait... his father ordered him? Did he get threatened by his father? So that means that old man... he’s strict with his own son too? Curious... I want to ask Eden but we’re still not that close.
He timidly nodded. “If there’s a need for an individual assignment where I need to present it... I’ll just skip the class. The teachers are afraid to complain to my father after all.” Which leads me into this shameful situation. Suits me.
“Who on earth is in the right mind to complain to your father about his son? He’s already annoying enough for me to even hold normal conversation.” Eh! I'm talking about his own father badly! “Sorry I–”
“It’s okay. All my friends complain about him all the time.”
“Alright so in short, I help you practice for your speech, and you help me with my grades? Easy peasy~ no need to explain those in pages of your folder,” she said, wondering why he would make things to be so complicated in the first place. “But we can’t practice your speech in the library, right? Any suggestions of a suitable place for that?”
“My apartment?” It’s spacious enough for me... if she thinks it’s too small, I could finally use the villa that father gave me last year, but wouldn’t that be the same as letting him know that I have this problem? What if he thinks I’m dating her or something? That can cause her unnecessary trouble. He seriously thought. Am I overthinking this?
She gave him a judging look before playing it like it didn’t matter at all. If it was any other guys doing the same to her, she knew it would be an invitation that could lead into some kind of adult stuff but since it was him, she knew he was really saying that for their purpose. Well, if he’s plotting something bad to me. Assuming that happens for real, my years of taekwondo classes would come in handy. Geez! Am I overthinking this?
In short, two overthinkers met each other.
“Sure. Let’s start today... if you're not busy?” She completely forgot she initially wanted to start the next day.
“I’m not busy... that was my last class for today. You went here by public transport or your own car?” He asked, wanting to offer her a ride because he started to feel a bit comfortable talking to her. She must’ve forgotten that she suggested this to start tomorrow... anyways, today is good to start though... since she seems like an easy person to be distracted.
