I awoke from a deep slumber from some banging on my front door. There were some car lights in my window before I heard it squelching away.
I slowly crept from my bed fit for a king to my front door and opened it. I didn't see anything but the city lights and a quiet street and a full moon. That is, until I looked down.
There laid a basket covered with a light pink blanket.
I carefully lifted it and brought it to my kitchen counter, uncovering it anxiously. It held a baby girl that had a thick head of dark brown hair with a letter pinned to her diaper that I quickly detached. It read:
Prince Christopher,
This is your child. It is a girl. She's un-named and 2 days old. Obviously, I don't want her, you, or to be your princess or queen for that matter. Forget me, like I've already forgotten you
-Millisette
My eyes felt heavy as my veins pulsed with fury. She didn't...she wasn't.
8 months ago, she was bound to be my bride, but she left me at the alter in front of my family, the court, and the kingdom. She was going to be my arranged princess since I was underage and when I turned eighteen 3 months ago, should become queen and I, king. My father has an illness and is dying, so there was a bit of a rush for that matter. I am not allowed to take his position without a long lasting queen. Family tradition.
Now that I am eighteen, I live in a small house in a different dimension from the palace, far outside of the kingdom.
They wanted me to mature. They wanted me to age. And they wanted me to find normal love in a normal society, where nobody knows me as Prince Christopher because as you can tell by Millisette, kingdom love would not work out.
Anyway, I digress.
I didn't know Millisette was pregnant and she didn't tell me.
I couldn't deny this child though. She had my eyes.
I scooped her up in my arms and made a run for the palace through the secret portal in my basement. I was confused. Hurt. Lost.
"Mother! Father!" I yelled, busting through the cellar doors and racing into the palace, searching.
"Christopher" I heard my father pronounce. He didn't seem alarmed. He was just...regal, as always. Him and my mother rested in the library.
"Father, Mother, Millisette left a baby girl on my doorstep!" I explained in a panic. I held her out in my arms to show her to them. My mother quickly snatched her from me before fetching a servant to grab an old bottle from the shelves and to fill it with formula.
"calm down, son" my father spoke.
"she is definitely yours. These eyes speak for themselves those eyes are unique to the Brown heir." My mother said while cradling the baby. "what's her name?" she asked.
"She doesn't have one. She was only born 2 days ago
"well" my father huffed. "name her"
"Father, I don't know how. Hell, I don't know how to be a father. I'm only 18!"
"CHRISTOPHER!" my mother scolded. "watch how you speak to your father!"
I bowed to the both of them before saying "I apologize" in a smooth but calm voice. The both nodded at me.
You were bound to be king and run a kingdom just a few months ago. You can easily raise a child." My father pointed out. "now, name your daughter."
My mother looked at me with loving eyes before handing the baby to me. I gazed at my child as a held her close to my chest and she fidgeted slightly. I thought for a long drawn out moment before her name hit me like a sack of bricks.
"My daughter's name shall be Julissa Christine Brown" I announced
"perfect" my mother exhaled before standing on her toes to kiss my forehead.
"yes, yes. Now, you need a wife." My father pressed. I nodded anxiously. "but, good new doe you. The doctors have given me approximately 3 to 5 more years before...well"
He didn't need to finish. We knew what he meant. My father is dying and I need to be ready to take his thrown. But finding a wife in this so called "real world" I live in, is difficult.
I hugged and kissed them both, grabbed a couple more bottles of royal formula from the servants before taking the portal back home.
I need a bride and quick...
