Day 1. Write a scene that takes place in a coffee shop
1:Coffee Shop
Bells tinkled overhead as Sarah entered the small shop. A cool blast of air and the smell of coffee and pastries greeted her, relaxing her almost immediately.
Taking a seat in the far corner, a waiter approached her and took her order.
"One hot chocolate, please," she said. She hadn't had the drink for months now. The waiter jotted her order down and walked away.
Sarah smiled as she looked around. Coffee and Biscuits was still the same as it was before - lanterns that glowed softly with yellow light hanging at random intervals were strung up across the room. The oak wood floor was clean and spotless as always. Matching wooden tables and chairs were slightly out of place, occupied by customers.
And behind the glass display of pastries stood Mark's mother, who had just spotted Sarah and was now making her way over to her.
"Sarah, dear! It's been a long time since we've seen each other!" the woman exclaimed, sliding into the seat across her.
"I agree, Monica. It has been quite some time," Sarah said, leaning forward as she clasped her hands together on the table.
Monica's eyes twinkled. "Have you heard that Mark is coming back?"
The waiter who took her order placed down her hot chocolate in front of her. She took a tentative sip, warmth filling her mouth as she peered at the woman. "I've heard,"
"He'll be arriving at round," Monica glanced at her watch, "three-thirty this afternoon. Just an hour more to go and I'll get to see my boy again!"
Sarah just smiled affectionately at her, not replying. Her gazed drifted off from Monica and she just started to think about the last time she was here with Mark, her ex-boyfriend.
The two had only been together for three weeks, after how many years of courtship by Mark. Sarah had finally returned feelings for him and they were perfectly happy together.
They were on a date at his family's coffee shop, Coffee and Biscuits. The waiter had just delivered their orders. Sarah's was a hot chocolate.
She started to sip it, relishing the warmth and sweet taste it spread over her tongue. Meanwhile Mark didn't touch his Oreo cake or latte at all.
"I'm going to Australia for a few months," Mark blurted out, just when silence had settled over them.
Sarah stared at him, surprised, and blinked. "What?"
"I'm leaving tomorrow," he continued, his hazel eyes intent on her, before looking away when Sarah narrowed her eyes at him. "I-I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier."
Sarah closed her eyes and sighed, deciding not to get angry and demand why he didn't tell her earlier even though that was what she wanted to do. "Why all of a sudden?"
"I just need a break, that's all." Mark fiddled with the sleeve of his coat. It was cold that day.
"How long?"
"I'm not sure, I'll be back within a year though,"
Sarah couldn't believe it. After so many years of trying to win her heart, Mark was just going to leave her to go to Australia for a 'break'. What was that supposed to mean? Did he need some space or what? Was he not happy with her?
