Violet and Han spent the last three days tailing Reyes. They followed him everywhere, but up until this point, he wasn't in a position for them to get at him. Every VIP section was closed off unless you had power in Rio. And every time one of them tried to get close, they couldn't complete their part of the mission. Today was different though, he had a few meetings out in the open at a beach resort.
Violet and Han stood at a long table for guests. They could see Reyes from where they were standing. Violet had to think of a way to get up there and speak to Reyes. It was their only way to gain access to Reyes, or else they'd have to figure out something else.
Han munched on a bowl of chips he ordered alongside Violet's cocktail and a bottle of beer.
Violet was dressed to impress today, figuring if they got lucky, at least Violet looked good while doing it.
Looking at the security detail around Reyes was a little disheartening. At the moment, Violet counted seven, and most of them were in suits, probably sweating to death until the summer sun.
"I make six bodyguards."
"Seven." Violet corrected. "Look at the guy with the fanny pack. He's far too close to Reyes to be a tourist. They would have shooed him away by now." Violet pointed out.
Han glanced over at the guy he did peg as a tourist, but now thinking about it, it wouldn't make sense considering they watched the bodyguards make sure that no one got close. Han looked back at Violet, looking at the side of her face. Violet was focused on coming up with a believable plan to get Reyes' handprint.
There was only one option, and that was getting his handprint on a piece of her clothing. But how?
"So, wanna tell me how much you never showed off like that at races? Or no?" Han asked. Violet bit the side of her tongue before looking over at Han. "You know I'm observant."
"I'm well aware."
"So...?" Han pressed.
"How about this?" Violet rested her arms onto the table, facing Han. "I'll tell you why if you tell me why you stopped smoking." Violet pointed out. Han suddenly became aware of his snacking. He slowly lowered the chip back into the bowl. Violet looked down at the bowl of chips before looking back at Han. "I might have only just realized, but you always eat snacks. What, is it to keep your mouth and hands busy? 'Cause there are several other ways to keep those things occupied, Han Lue." Violet smirked.
Han had a few ideas.
Violet looked back at Reyes. "And it's no fun to have everyone expect me to know everything about driving. But I did mention, I wanted to become a professional racer. I needed to know all those tricks in order to become a somebody." Violet said.
