Have you ever been to a theater? Sometimes, I bet. But, have you ever been to a theater where you get whisked onto the stage? Well, it happened to Huckleberry Hound one day! Now, normally, Huck did like to perform, but what he didn't know that he was about to go to a play at the theater...and he's the star!
Our story begins on a bright and sunny Sunday morning, when Huck is out for a stroll through the park. He hadn't gone very far, when he shouted loudly and proudly, "Good morning, sunshine!!!"
And as the sun shone brightly, he began to sing a cheerful song as he walked along the path.
"Good morning, sunshine,
It's another sunny day!
Good morning butterflies,
Coming my way!
The weather's looking nice out here,Not a single storm cloud,
It's another sunshine day!
I wake up in the morning,
With a smile on my face,
Say hello to the sun,
In this wonderful place,
There's a beautiful day,
Heading my way!
Good morning, sunshine,
It's another sunny day!
Good morning butterflies,
Coming my way!
Stay away, big ol' raincloud,
Because the sun is shining brightly.
Yes, it's another sunshine day!
Boop-oop-a-doop!"
As he kept on walking, he soon met a fellow in a fancy outfit who met him on the street corner as he was on his way to the candy shop.
"Well, good morning, sir!" he said cheerfully, tipping his straw hat. "Sure is a beautiful day, ain't it?"
"Yes, sir, it is," the fellow replied. "Are you the famous Huckleberry Hound?"
"Well, yes!" Huck answered. "I am! And I'm just on my way to the candy shop to get something sweet to eat! Wanna join me?"
"Why, sure!"
"Great! Follow me! And by the way, what's your name?"
"Call me Perry!"
"Nice to meet you, Perry!"
Huck and Perry walked to the candy shop together, and upon arrival, they were greeted by the colorful soda fountain and many shelves and big crates and barrels worth of candy!
"Hmm, what would I like to buy today?" Huck mumbled to himself, as he rubbed his chin in thought.
It took him a few minutes to browse the store, but he ended up settling on some peppermint sticks, a bag of gumdrops, a giant lollipop, and a chocolate bar. But this chocolate bar had marshmallow fluff inside! Huck paid for his sweet treats, then immediately unwrapped the chocolate bar and took a bite. Mmm! Delicious!
"Gosh, this is great!" he beamed as he quickly took another bite.
Perry chuckled. "You look like you wanted that one, sonny!"
Huck laughed. "What can I say? I love candy! A hound dog like me has his simple pleasures in life, and candy is one of em'...next to music!"
"Music, you say?" Perry asked.
"Yep! I'm a singer and dancer, and an actor too!"
"Well then, you may find interest in this," Perry said as he handed Huck an envelope with his name on it.
"Hmmmm, I wonder what this is. Wasn't expecting this in the mail today."
Huck opened the envelope, and inside was...
"Oh! An invitation!"
And he read it out loud.
"Dear Huckleberry Hound,
You're invited to attend the play of your choice at the Sinatra Theater, where imagination and music soar to the sky! You'll see the famous Heartsong Couple, sing along to ol' time favorites, and much more! These plays will have you dancing in the aisles! These tickets are enough for you and five friends of your choice, so come on over, and see your wildest dreams take flight!
Sincerely,
The cast members of the Sinatra Theater"
Huck was thrilled. "Seeing a play!? OH, GOODY GOODY GOSH!!! Perry, you've just gotta bring me and my friends there!! I'd love to come see a play!!"
"Good! Because I'm taking you there by limousine!"
Huck was very excited. He had to let some of his friends know, so he met up with some of his closest friends, like Snagglepuss, Hokey Wolf, Pixie, and Dixie.
"I hope we don't have to wear fancy attire," Hokey said as he looked at the invitation.
"Doesn't say we have to wear anything formal or fancy," Huck replied. "I guess we can go as we are!"
"Oh, good!" Hokey grinned.
"So, are we all going?" Huck asked.
"I'm there!" Hokey exclaimed.
"You bet, we're going to see this!" Pixie added.
"Count us in!" Dixie shouted.
"We'll be delighted!" Snag finished. "Overjoyed! Underjoyed, even!"
"Great!" Huck beamed. "That just leaves one ticket left. But who should I give it to?"
That's when Huck saw his girlfriend, Clementine Darling walking by.
"Hi, boys!" she said.
"Bingo!" Huck said as he ran over to her. "Clementine, can I ask you something?"
"Why, yes, Huckleberry!" Clementine replied. "What is it?"
"I was invited to bring five friends to the Sinatra Theater to see a play," Huck told her. "I have four tickets handed out so far, so, that just leaves one. So, would you like to go see a play with us?"
"A play?" Clementine said as she looked at the ticket. But when she saw the selection of plays, boy, was she excited. "Oh, Huckleberry, I'd love to go with you!!"
"Alright!!" Huck shouted. "Come on, gang! We're getting in the limousine with Perry, and heading to the Sinatra Theater! We're gonna see a play!"
The gang cheered excitedly, then made their way over to the department store, where Perry was waiting with his limousine.
"Okay, Perry!" Huck called. "We're ready!"
"Ahhhh, I see you have your friends!" Perry grinned. "In you all go! The theater's calling your names!"
And so, after everyone got in the limo, they started driving to the theater. Their day at the play has just begun!
