"The shepherd method, I think I could take a bit of the credit, and besides, we're shepherds," said Evelyn, approaching Derek with the magazine.
"Don't tell me, I think Meredith's mad at me"
"Of course she is, the woman helped you throughout the research and now you just ignore her" Evelyn said over the phone to Derek.
"How's New York?" She asked
"I haven't been to see mom yet, I'm at the hotel" said Evelyn looking out the window at the big buildings.
"When you see her, send her a kiss" said Derek
"I will, send me news of Bailey's surgery!"
Evelyn said, turning off her cell phone and putting on some clothes, heading towards her mother's house.

"Mom, how are you?" Evelyn said, entering her mother's house
"My daughter, I miss you," said her mother, hugging her, "your sisters are in the kitchen."
"Is Lottie here?" asked
"Yes, she is"
"Good afternoon, family," said Evelyn, entering the kitchen.
"Mom!" Charlotte screamed and ran to her mother, hugging her "I've missed you so much mom"
"You're huge Lottie, I didn't realize you were so big like this"
"Mom, you look beautiful! This dress makes you look beautiful"
"I've missed you my child, I've missed you so much!" Evelyn said, hugging her again
"Is Dad coming?" "He tried, but this is a mother-daughter date"
"Aren't you going to talk to your sisters?" Liz asked, always so affectionate, if you know what I mean.
"How are my sisters?" said Evelyn hugging them, "I remember having one more sister!" She asked, missing Amelia
"We don't know if she's coming, she never shows up" said Nancy sipping her wine, she didn't like Amelia.
"I've come" said Amy, appearing in the kitchen
"Amyyy" said Evelyn running to hug her sister, they were best friends
"Look at you, more beautiful every day Evy" said Amy hugging her
"Oh please, we got the good family genes" said Evelyn laughing
"Dinner's served" shouted Carolyn from the dining room.

"Mom, Derek sent you a kiss," said Evelyn, taking a bite of her noodles.
"How is he?" Kat asked
"He's fine, he's doing some new research, he's even on the cover of a magazine"
"How are you, Mom?" It was Lottie's turn to ask her mother
"I'm fine, doing life-saving surgery, the usual"
"Nothing interesting?" Amy asked
"Well, I have a favorite resident, her name is Izzie," said Evelyn.
"And you Amy? Are you back on drugs?" Nancy asked, always so unnecessary
"I've stopped that Nancy"
"Let's not get into that, please, girls," said the shepherds' mother.
"Just saying Dad wouldn't be proud" said Nancy teasingly
"For God's sake, Nancy, everything we've done wrong, you have to bring Dad into it," said Evelyn, slapping the table. Amelia has already stopped, give her some confidence" she said making everyone shut up
The rest of the dinner was filled with silence and teasing, but in the end everything worked out and Evelyn took her daughter to sleep with her at the hotel.

The next morning, Evelyn decided to take Lottie to the snack bar she used to take her to as a child
"Mom," said Lottie, calling out to her mother, "Hi, love."
"Why did you come here? It's not a vacation and Dad told me you told him I had a science fair."
"I missed you, Lottie, I've been thinking about you a lot these days," she said, caressing her daughter's face.
"I don't want to go to Seattle with you mom" she said "what?"
"I know Dad asked you to, I don't want to go, Aunt Nancy needs me"
"My child, don't worry, Aunt Nancy can manage on her own" she said to her daughter.
"Mom, I'd love to move in with you, but I like New York, I feel like Carrie Bradshaw here," said the girl, making her mother laugh.
"If you ever want to move there, just give me a call and I'll be here to pick you up" Evelyn said hugging her daughter.
The rest of the day was quiet, the two spent time in the park and then the girl said goodbye to her mother
