The noise that came from Ahk as he watched Kahmunrah stab Damien was equally as soft but just as horrible. The tablet clattered to the ground as Kahmenrah let Damien go and yanked the blade free. Without it to support him, Damien crumpled. It hurt. The pain was intense and yet he felt strangely distant to it. The blood pouring from the wound was covering the floor and he could feel the wetness soaking his shirt as he blinked up at the ceiling. This was a different death to being blown up."Damien", Ahk was scrambling on his knees as he reached Damien's side. The blood sticking to his borrowed clothes as he tried to stem the bleeding. His movements practised and sure as he began ripping Damien's shirt from his shoulders. But his eyes were wide with fear. Green bright in a way that Damien did not like.
Jed was shouting mindless threats at Kahmunrah. His hour glass tipped on it's side so that the sand was no longer threatening to bury him. "You cowardly weasel! Pathetic cockroach! Why back in my day we would have hung you from the gallows until your feet stopped twitching".
Damien groaned in pain as Ahk began tying the makeshift bandages around his frame. "I know it hurts darling but hang in there", the brunette soothed, voice soft but still audibly scared. He tied another strip and Damien hissed. His head lolling back to stare at something else than his blood on his beloved's hands.
Kahmunrah had picked up the tablet from where it had fallen after Ahk had dropped it. His bloody sword in one hand as he studied the metal as if the liquid was nothing more than annoyance for staining the surface. "Give me the combination little brother before I behead you lover. He might be pretty but he has defied me and I will have him killed". The sword flicked back up to point threateningly.
Damien tried to glare at the man but cried out as Ahk finished tying the rest of the bandages. Instantly Ahk's bloodied hands were pulling him up and into his arms, cradling his body in his lap. Damien sank into the touch. His limbs going limp and head lolling onto Ahk's shoulder as he breathed through the pain. The makeshift bandages were doing their job of slowing the blood flow but they would not last forever. Damien would die again tonight. Wether or not he would return the next night was the real danger here.
"Dami. Beloved. Darling". One of Ahk's hands was brushing blonde off his lover's forehead. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to his brow before resting their foreheads together. "You'll be fine. I promise". His tone was soft, hardly more than a whisper just loud enough for Damien to hear. Besides, this was for them. Not for Kahmenrah to hear.
Damien hummed in response, tired from the pain in his abdomen. "I am not scared to die Ahk", he tried to smile. "I'm sorry I didn't move faster. I just wanted to protect you".
"You did. You did just fine. Let me deal with it now", Ahk pressed a light but reassuring kiss to Damien's lips. "You've protected me from my murderer so well. But let me face him now".
"Enough!" Kahmunrah interrupted in a snap. "Tell me the combination baby brother before I let your dying lover watch as you are gutted from navel to throat". He mined the line with the blood coated sword and Damien made a choked noise, one arm weakly gripping at Ahk's chest as if to protect him with his body. But Ahk was not scared. His gaze when he stared at his older half brother was steady and fall of loathing.
"Who killed you? Brother". Ahk tilted his head, lips thinning into a sneer as he gently held Damien closer to him. His touch at odds with the anger on his face. Damien was tired and he watched blearily as his lover stood up against the man who murdered him. "Was it murder? Done by someone you trusted? Tell me. How did the knife in your back feel? Familiar?"
Kahmunrah strode forwards and stopped as he held the blade of his sword under Ahk's chin. "Tell me the combination before I cut it from your soulmate. Do you think you would survive his loss?"
"Try it", Damien grinned weakly but with a fierceness. "My first death ripped me apart. None of my remains were left for burial or a grave. I was forsaken by the gods. You, small man with dreams of power beyond his reach, don't scare me". He might have been picking up some word patterns from Ahk, but he knew what to say to be effective. He knew that his first death opposed all what the pharaohs thought proper in death. Ahk had expressed his grief over it and how much that type of death had terrified his people. Damien was using that information now to make himself seem far braver and far scarier than he felt.
It seemed to work for Kahmunrah's blade shook slightly at the mental image. The man gathered himself, lacking the easy poise and authority that Ahk possessed even with Damien bleeding out in his arms. Damien looked at his lover and saw a pharaoh who would burn the world for him and he felt safe, even with a mad man pointing a blade at him.
"You will give me the combination". He stated as if repeating himself would change things.
"Don't give him anything!" Jed called from his prison.
"We already got the combination!" Damien felt Ahk's hand tighten around him as they all glanced down the hall. Al Capone, Napoleon and Ivan the terrible with all their men were marching towards them. The black and white gangster was holding up something in his hand, tossing it back and forth. "It's pi. 3.14159265". The Einstein bobble head yelped as it was flicked on the forehead. "See crazy hair here. He sang. He sang like a fucking canary".
"Sorry", it muttered as it spotted Ahk and Damien on the floor. The blonde couldn't help but feel pity towards the bobble head as it was shaken furiously for nothing more than the amusement of it's captor.
The soldiers from various moments in history gathered around the fallen pharaoh and the dying archeologist and the shared looks on their faces were smug. Kahmunrah withdrew his blade and sheathed it with a smile that Damien wanted to punch off his face. "It seems, baby brother", he spoke as he headed for the gate. The carved dark stone that stood in a corner of the room. Damien had not had a chance to properly examine it but for once his curiosity with all things Egyptian had fled from him. "That all your efforts were for naught. Our father and your mother must be turning in their bandages".
"Dami", Ahk's voice was hushed. Damien tore his eyes away from watching Kahmunrah by the gate to meet green eyes. Ahkmenrah smiled at him. There was no sadness in the smile, if only a little bit of shame. "I am sorry I was not strong for you like I promised to be. I offered you the world and it seems that I have failed to provide".
Damien swallowed and even that action hurt. He was bleeding through his bandages. "Ahk", he smiled back lovingly. "I never needed the world. All I needed was you". Ahk leaned down to press a kiss to Damien's lips. The blonde sighing into it and reciprocating gently as around them a humming noise seemed to fill the air.
"Do you know what that sound is? That is the sound of the end", Kahmunrah announced gleefully. He began chanting in Egyptian, the words spoken in reverence. Damien's brain too tired to translate them.
Ahk pulled away from his lover's lips to place their foreheads together. He began humming, a different tune to whatever Kahmunrah was chanting. His lips whispering other words. Prayers for their next afterlife, prayers for strength, prayers for safety, all mixed between sweet foolish nothings on the beauty of his lover. Any other time those words would have Damien blushing but this time he listened to those words rather than Kahmunrah and let them soothe him. He closed his eyes and let himself sink deeper into Ahk's arms.
A crack of stone moving made him open his arms again. The sarcophagus on the front of the gate was shifting out, unlocking whatever the gate his behind it. Kahmunrah stopped chanting. "Welcome to the new extended rein of Kahmunrah! The fifth king of Egypt and now the world!" The words echoed around the room as with the grating noise of stone against stone, the gate began to slide open.

Ahk would burn the world for Damien. I'm waiting for the chance to give him his much desired revenge. Kahmunrah better watch out.
