Humans. They are so interesting. Always exploring, gathering things and even creating things! He wanted to get up close and personal, but he wasn't allowed to. His mother always told him that if he got too close he would be discovered and being discovered was not a good thing.
But that didn't mean he couldn't watch from afar! Whenever a human came wandering in he would silently observe the humans. Although their appearances were rare and far in between, he found these moments to be his favorite.
Humans were fascinating, always doing something strange and new. One time he had seen a human draw a circle on the ground and started chanting. He wasn't sure what the human was saying, but the faint blue glow that appeared around him was really cool. There was also this time where a human came in with a large bag and a strange sharp object. They stayed for a while, hitting the walls and gathering these shiny rocks.
As fun as it was to watch the humans, they wouldn't stay for long. The creatures roaming the area made quick work in either scaring them away or eating them. He tried to get the creatures to stay away, but his mother always reminded him that humans could not stay and that the creatures were just protecting him.
He frowned at that. From what he had seen, humans only came here to perform strange actions, never had they tried to harm him. He tried to convey his thoughts to his mother, but she was quick to shut him up.
Despite the constant scolding from his mother, he couldn't help but long for the humans' visits. His mind was constantly filled with thoughts like 'What will they do this time?' Or 'What does the strange glowing red light feel like?'. Eventually his mind wandered to a topic that he knew was taboo.
'I want to join them.' He knew the thought alone would cause a ruckus from mother, but he couldn't help it! He just wanted to experience all the fun and cool things the humans did.
One of his siblings told him that it was possible to change their form, but the process was more complicated than he would have liked and it wasn't a complete transformation. There was always going to be a part of them that revealed what they truly were. His sibling sounded cautious and sad when he told him this, but even after all the warning of what could happen he still wanted to try.
So here he was observing another human, desperately trying to observe every inch of their form. Silently he took notes. He had observed five humans so far and each one was vastly different. It made the transformation seem even more daunting.
The main part of the process needed him to get an idea of what humans looked like in order to transform into them, but with each one being different it was hard to pinpoint exactly what he should look like.
Should he have muscles like the first human? Or should he be more lean like the third human? What about the length of his hair? The second human had really long hair, but it seemed like a hassle when they were trying to do stuff. The rest of the humans had short hair which seemed simpler, but he wouldn't be able to put it up in fun ways like the second human did.
He was left in a conundrum.
Silently observing this new human, he couldn't help but think of his list. Should he just use all of their appearances and use something from each of them? It sounded good in theory, but he still wasn't sure.
The human he was observing let out a shriek as they ran away from the creatures. His eyes lit up as he caught sight of the fluffy hair on the human.
'It looks so soft!' He couldn't help but think that if he had hair like that then he would be touching it every day! Ignoring the screams, he made his way back to his home and got to work creating his human appearance.
