JAPAN WAS SOON greeted with June, the month of water. For the country, it was the start of the rainy season, but for the high school volleyball teams of Miyagi Prefecture, the interhigh preliminaries were the only topic flooding their days. It was unmistakably hard work and exhausting practices, yet there was always a sense of unity during this time. The kind of unified anticipation the world felt as they watched their country claw their way to victory in the Olympics.

Aoba Johsai intended to do the same.

Claw their way to victory.

"Give me another Kunimi! That was absolute garbage!" Bellowed out the strident commands of Coach Mizoguchi as he prepared to serve another ball over the net. "You think you're gonna beat Shiratorizawa with those spikes? Think again, princess!"

Serving the ball over the net, Aoba Johsai's 1st year Akira Kunimi jumped up, barely touching the ball, tipping it over instead. Scoffing off his feeble attempt, he walked away, allowing the next player in line to do their turn. As his slender frame walked to the back of the line, the indifferent Kunimi recounted his regrets when he began mumbling to himself about even showing up to practice in the first place.

"Got something to say 1st year?!" Screeched out Mizoguchi once more. For a man in his thirties, he sure was temperamental.

"No, sir..." Kunimi droned back. 'I fucking hate morning practices.'
