A LUCKY CHARM was only a fun superstition, the ones people use in silly references in everyday sentences. One is usually referred to in a cheesy romcom in an even cheesier flirtatious comment, but that was just it. Lucky charms don't exist in the real world, let alone on the court. Train, eat, break, repeat. It's a repetitive cycle, and it never stops. You want to be the best? then you prove it. No lucky charm was going to help you there. In the volleyball world, luck didn't exist; it simply didn't belong.

At least that's what Ushijima Wakatoshi believed in. He was the best, after all. A third-year student attending Shiratorizawa Academy and the captain of the school's boys' volleyball team. He was as confident in his skills as he was in training; being the #1 superstar ace of the prefecture doesn't come from just pure talent. Even on a warm afternoon like the present, an easy way out wasn't even a thought passing through his brain.

The hard sidewalk pavement would have cramped his legs if it weren't for the aid of the white running shoes laced on his feet. His breath, rugged, and slight sweat was glistening on his forehead in a way that the setting sun could grace. He had been jogging for around an hour by now, taking his time yet trying his best not to get caught up in the nightfall. His light run came to a stop thanks to a crosswalk, using this as a point to catch a quick breath. It was solitude, absolute, the only sound being the light rustle of the wind chimes hanging on a nearby corner store, twinkling in its own song.

Solitude is what he thought he had until his eyes focused on what was across from him just on the other end of the crosswalk.

A girl.

Ushijima's presence didn't go unnoticed by the latter, her alluring (e/c) eyes already cemented on the taller male, separated only by the vacate road.

Any other girl would have looked away in embarrassment at seeing a boy catch her stare, yet this mysterious girl didn't even move a muscle. Although Ushijima wasn't used to a girl being so casually aloof in his presence, he didn't make an effort to show how he was slightly taken aback by the fact. Having a handsome face and being the top athlete at school wasn't exactly enough to make the ladies swoon or shower him with gifts on Valentine's Day, not that he ever noticed or cared anyway.

After a good 15 seconds of shockingly non-awkward eye contact, the mysterious girl decided to break the silence. This time, Ushijima couldn't stop his eyes slightly widening from what escaped her cheshire curled lips.
