It was four in the afternoon, it was slowly getting darker and the Vírlas Family were busy moving the carts and doing the final preparations for the festivities. Tèrrìll and Fortìle came running out covered in flour and shouting for the entourage to stop. Hidía and Crees were pushing the carts. They were still viewed as children according to their older siblings. Hidía had turned sixteen several months ago, and Crees was seventeen. They both were still very young at heart and a little immature.
Tèrrìll caught up to the two as she panted with exhaustion. "I can't keep up with you both! Didn't I tell you to wait for the buns?"
Crees looked at Hidía sheepishly. He had convinced her to hurry, he did not wish to miss a single moment of the festivities. To his defense, they were all excited and a bit agitated that they had to work during the party. But who could blame them? This was a one time deal. This kind of festival would never happen again, and such preparations had taken ever so long. Things were planned from the moment they arrived. It was not just the Vírlas that were excited, it was the whole city, and the whole Kingdom of Trinitas. People were coming from all over the kingdom, those who had never been to the city would be at the parties. There would be dancing, music, stories from the best tellers, and food beyond imagining. There would also be fireworks and scented smoke. Among one of the most anticipated was the king's speech. Few had ever seen the king, let alone hear him speak. He spent most of his days in the palace passing laws and governing from afar. But this event, to see the king himself, now that was a prize indeed!
The children had just set up in the assembly court. It was filled with people, and they would surely get thousands of customers for the day. The children began to look around with a bit of apprehension and anxiety. As the crowds were milling around they saw their parents working through the mass of people. Kris, their father, had their mother Rebecca's arm intertwined with his. They both were beaming and looked a bit like children waiting to unwrap a present. Their mother had her hair tied up in a fancy bun, and she wore a pink and cream dress. Their father was in a casual suit with a long brown jacket and cream pants. They both looked like newlyweds. Their father spoke first.
"Did you bring everything? I hope you did not slack off at all?" The kids' smiles faded quickly as they began to check to make sure that all was accounted for. As Kris saw his children panic he laughed heartily. "Bahaha, don't be afraid, be happy. oh look!" He exclaimed, pointing toward the castle and the distant shining waterfall. "The celebration has begun!"
The family stood in awe, as the rushing falls turned an assortment of colors and glistened brilliantly in the evening dusk. All of a sudden a deep boom was heard. The first fireworks began illuminating the darkening sky with greens and blues, reds and even some purples.
The night continued with many strange people arriving; they were dressed in various odd clothes and the locals thought that these people had a very different way of showing their jubilance. Hidía shrieked as she saw a specific group. "It is the fabled circus!"
Crees covered his ears and complained. "Ack, it is the circus alright, do you have to scream like a little girl?"
Tèrrìll laughed at him. "Don't say you are not interested in their tricks?" she grabbed Hidía's hand in excitement. "Hidía lets go see!" She then looked to Fortìle and their mother "Come on Fortìle! Mama can we go?!" Rebecca nodded her head with a broad smile
As the girls ran off Crees tried to act as if he was more mature, he puffed out his chest and acted as if he was not interested. He scoffed at Karíto."Who needs em, the circus is for children eh?"
Karíto laughed, "You think so? Well I am going over, you can come if you want to"
Crees being caught off guard panicked, he nodded and followed his brother. The performers did have all kinds of tricks, they juggled various things, some of which were dangerous, they could even make things appear and disappear. One even balanced his whole weight on top of a stick. They were incredible. Soon enough the whole troupe got together and performed acrobats. The complicated flips were made to look so easy. When the performers were done the crowd applauded and some paid them for their time and talent. The Vírlas family had no money to give them, so instead they offered some freshly baked beef cakes. The performers readily thanked them and devoured the delicious food.
