A/N: Since this story originated as a roleplay, there are various switching perspectives. A double space indicates that the perspective has switched to a new person.
Nicole Auroa walked quietly down the hallway, her head down. It was her first day at a new school. In Wisconsin. The very place she had been warned about, warned to never set foot in.
Technically speaking, it was all her parent's fault. One day she came home to several things in boxes all over her house. Upon asking, her parents had told her they by the end of the week, everything needed to be packed away for their move to Wisconsin. Needless to say, she was not happy.
To make things worse, every night that week she had had a dream where someone or something told her not to move. When she had told her parents, they had brushed it off as mere anxiety about the move. Nicole wasn't so sure about that. They weren't normal anxiety dreams, they were strangely real. Course, most of her dreams felt the same way, real but they couldn't be.
After a few days of begging, threatening, fussing, and crying, her parents still managed to move her and everything else they owned cross-country to Wisconsin, to a middle of nowhere town and a very, very, tiny school. The school where she would spend the rest of her high school career.
Nicole sighed as she opened her locker to return her Health textbook. As far as she knew, she was the only new student on the entire campus. In every class, she had been forced to stand up and introduce herself. At least now it was lunch.
"Hi!" A very short girl with a dark clove skin tone and very fluffy hair tied back with a bandana that covered her ears asked, "You're the new girl, Nicole, right? Welcome to Park Falls! If you ever need anything don't be afraid to ask me. I'm Mellie Oisin, in your geometry class!" Her deep brown eyes crinkled at the corners with her very big smile as she held out her hand to shake Nicole's.
Everything about Mellie was very. Very short, very cheerful, very kind, very big, fluffy and round. She had almost mouse-ish features with an upturned nose and big, round eyes, even some slight buck teeth though it was hardly noticeable. She was very approachable and seemed like a hardworking girl with good grades and a better attitude.
"Uh, thanks" Nicole said, slightly uncomfortable as she took Mellie's hand. "But right now, I just want to find the lunch room."
Mellie grinned, "I can show you there if you like!"
Nicole looked down again. "Oh. Okay then." she said quietly.
Mellie led Nicole down the hallways towards the lunch room. Though she had approached Nicole fairly confidently in the beginning she had begun to doubt herself and only said a few things on the way to the lunch room. Like pointing out important classrooms and such, not much more than directions.
"Hey, uh, Mellie?" Nicole asked, slightly uncomfortable with the silence. "What would you recommend for cafeteria food? I forgot to pack my lunch, and at my old school the food was always awful. They messed up the most simple of things."
Mellie relaxed slightly, "Sure. They have surprisingly decent sandwiches, though not much else will be good, and even some vegetarian and vegan options!" Mellie usually ate mostly vegetarian, and they had a good veggie sandwich she'd get a lot, "Their veggie sandwiches are what I eat when I don't make lunch, they're not even the worst sandwiches I've had! -Actually though..." Mellie thought for a second before continuing, "I felt like baking this morning... and last night, so I have tons of extra food today..." She admitted sheepishly, "So if you'd want some you can have some, it's mostly vegetarian stuff though."
"That would be great. Thank you so much." Nicole said, spinning around to face Mellie. However, as she did she ran into someone else. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bump into you."
