Bonding Time With Friends

The Very Next Day

The bright sunlight hit my face within a blink of an eye.  By then, it was time for me to get up.  After helping Sonic cope with his night terror, I knew it would be right to call Tom when I had the chance.  Luckily for Tom, Maddie was also there, so that was a bonus.  By then, it was 9:51 AM.

Hey, something happened today but I would like to let you know all about it tomorrow.

Incoming Call...

I heard a ring coming from my phone.  I walked over to see who called me.  It was Tom.

Ah, right on schedule.

"Hello Tom," I said.

"Nate, you wanted to call me in regards to Sonic's night terror?"

"Yes."

"What happened?"

"I just got done washing dishes, and I was about to lie down on the couch until Sonic cried out.  That was when I was like, he needs help.  So, the very second I knew he was having a night terror, I had to gently coax him because he was freaking out.  What I did not expect was seeing his quills light up.  It may have catched me off guard, but that didn't necessarily stop me from staying by him.  Eventually, it took him awhile to relax.  And he's doing good as of now," I quickly summarized, earning a sigh of relief from the sheriff.

"It was great to hear you helped him out as soon as you found out, Nate.  Well, Maddie and I are about to continue our vacation and tell the kids we said hi for us, ok?" said Tom.

"Gladly, I will let them know as soon as I can, Tom... Thank you, goodbye."

As I went to check on Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, I took a deep breath seeing the worry cross their faces.

"Who called you?" asked Sonic.

"Donut Lord asked me how you were doing, and what I'm saying is, he's happy that I looked out for you," I replied, earning smiles from Sonic and Tails, even Knuckles as well, though he's the most reserved one of the bunch.

"Well, what do you guys wanna do today?" I asked, clearing the tension that lingered in the air.

"I was thinking that we could go to the gym," said Knuckles, eagerness visible in his voice.

"What about going on a run?" Sonic chimed in.

"So, how about you, Tails?  Any ideas as far as going out goes?" I suggested.

"Um, I'm okay with either or," said the fox, giving me a nervous smile.

"Well, why don't we do all two," I remarked, earning the happiest smiles I've ever seen in Sonic and Tails' faces.  "After our workout, we could go and get some grapes."

Right when Knuckles heard the word grapes, he instantly perked up with one hearty smile that I haven't seen the echidna do as of now, which is a first.

"Did you just say, we could get some grapes?" asked Knuckles, clearly excited and pumped up.

I nodded proudly.

"Come on, fellas!  Our bonding time with friends awaits!" Knuckles declared proudly, making all of us laugh good-heartedly.
