On Our Own

May 27, 1965 (5 years later)

Me and Mary decided to move back to New York after we graduated college, so we took our savings and some help from my parents to get out very own apartment "isn't this splendid Y/N?, this is something we can call our own" Mary says as she looks around in our new apartment, we had found a nice little place in downtown Brooklyn New York, we've had our eye on for quite a while "yes it's amazing " I say as I step beside her "but you wanna know what the best thing about all of this is?" I asked her as she looks at me "no what?" "I'm doing this all with you" I say as I finally look back at her, I take her hand into mine "the next chapters in our lives we will be doing it together, and I'm glad that you're the one that I will be doing this with" I say as I look into Mary's now glossy eyes.

"Oh Y/N I'm excited to start a life with you, and when we get a house...even start a family" Mary says as my eyes widen, family?, she smiles then leans up for a kiss "let's finish unpacking...in our new apartment" she squeals as she runs off into the kitchen, since she's do that I will begin on the living room boxes.

After I unpacked the living room boxes I decided to sit on the floor and take a break, it's May so it was really hot "all done in here?" Mary asked as she walks over to me "yep, just taking a little break, come take one with me" I say as I take her hand so she can sit with me "alright" she says as she sits down "I was looking in the papers for furniture and I came across something perfect for us" she says as she pulls the newspaper out of her back pocket "oh really?" I ask "yes, now look at this" she says as she shows me a a living room with a green lay out "and all of it is only 200 hundred dollars" she says as she hands me the paper so I can get a better look at it, in all it didn't look bad "is this what you want?" I ask her, she nods her head vigorously at the question "alright I will see what I can do" I say as she hugs me.

3 weeks later

I walk into a furniture place not to far away from our apartment called Fortunoff's Decor Workshop, I heard from Robert that this place had good and affordable furniture, and plus this is where Mary wanted that set from "hi ma'am, how can I help you today? Looking for anything pacific?" A well kept man says to me "oh yes, I was looking for this piece of furniture" I say as pull out the paper and show him the furniture "oh yes, that's one of our greatest sellers right now, you came just in time" he says as he goes to his desk to get some papers "were you interested in buying it today?" He asks me "yes I am, I want it to be there before my gir-partner gets home, do you think it can be delivered around...7?" I ask the man.

"yes of course, I will have my man over before your husband even steps into the door" he says with a laugh "I will just need you to sign a few papers and then your good to go" he says as he hands me a clipboard and pen "your family will love this" he says with a smile and I just smile back, now knowing really what to say. I get back to an empty apartment which I expected because Mary's at work, that gives me plenty of time to get things in place because I may or may not want a little overboard with the things I got, but this is things for our apartment so it's not really a big deal.

"Thank you guys so much, have a good day" I say a I close my door after the moving man, I put my hands on my hips and breath out as I look at our new and improved living room "oh she's going to love it" I say to myself with a smile "let's start on dinner" I say as I walk to the kitchen.

About 30 minutes later I hear the door open, letting me know Mary was home "hey honey, how was work? Sold any house today?" I ask as I put the last final touches on dinner "hi baby, and work was good, I didn't sell any houses though but I will get them next time" she says as I go to where she is, she was still taking off her shoes so she didn't see the living room yet "are you cooking?" She asked "yes I am, and it's you favorite, chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans and maybe a little dessert after" I say as I lean on the wall "that sounds delicious, what's the dessert?" she asks as she hugs me "you will see" I say as she kisses me "I missed you so much" she says in my ear "I missed you too, so do you want to eat at the dinner table or on the couch?" I asked her, I began to feel her head slowly get off on my shoulder and turn around "oh my..Y/N you didn't" she says as she puts her hands over her mouth "oh yes I did" I said as she runs out to the couch and sits.

"Who..when did you do this?" Mary asked as I sit beside her "well I got my check and cash it in then I went to the furniture store to get it, it got here like 30 minutes ago" "you sneaky girl" she says as she pushes me back into the couch to lay on me "what about the food? It will get cold" "we can always warm it" she says as she kisses me.
