Y/N sat by the pool in her black and white cocktail dress. She sipped sparkling cider as the music from inside the giant house played lowly on the outdoor speakers. The backdoor opens and she looks up seeing an old family friend walk out. Well, the son of an old family friend.
"Hey, Y/N." He walks out, closing the door behind him.
"Hey Armie." She smiles back. "What are you doing out here?"
"Needed a breather." He walks toward her, dressed in his black slacks and white dress shirt with a black jacket. "What are you doing out here all alone?"
"Aside from you, I'm the youngest person here and we have a seventeen-year age difference." She smiled up at him. "If I have to hear about another portfolio or financial plan, I'll lose my damn mind."
"Why do you think I'm out here?" He gestures to the outdoor area. "Want some company?"
"Please." She motions for him to sit next to her.
"It's been forever since we talked. How's life treating you?"
"Like life treats all 18-year-olds."
"That's right! You just turned 18! Didn't you graduate last year?"
"I will graduate this year."
"Any college plans?"
"I've been applying." You take a sip of your drink. "Kind of a waiting game."
"So, why are you here at this snooze fest instead of out like a normal teenager?" He asks, sipping his champagne.
"My parents gave me the, you need to socialize, speech."
Armie chuckled. "Being in a room with a bunch of rich snobs isn't exactly socializing."
"Which is why I am out here." She smirks.
"Speaking of." He slides off his jacket. "It's chilly out here and you are in a strapless dress." He places his jacket over her shoulders.
"Well look at that, chivalry isn't dead." She gives a grin.
They talk about her future plans, and he tells her about his work, and they catch up on the last few years that they'd hadn't seen one another. He was easy to talk to, having known him her entire life. Their families not only knew one another through social circles but her father, his father and he actually work at the same company.
The two continue to talk well into the evening before Y/N's mother poked her head out the back door. "Y/N? Oh Armie, how are you?!" She smiles as Armie gets up and hugs her mom. "I wondered why I hadn't seen you in there. I hope Y/N isn't keeping you out here away from duties."
"Oh, no ma'am. We were actually talking about college." Okay that wasn't totally true. College for half a second then started talking about boxing and hiking.
"Oh?"
"Yes, ma'am." He answers as Y/N walks over. "I was giving her pointers for applying." More like pointers for a straight jab, she smirked thinking to herself, as he spoke.
"Well, she is almost top of her class. She has a 4.0 and is on the honor committee."
"Okay, mom. That's-"
