PIPER
Sitting in the plush leather chair in Emily's office, I drummed my fingers on the armrest, gazing out at the Nashville skyline. The tour had been a whirlwind—sold-out arenas, screaming fans, and late-night bus rides. I should have felt elated, but instead, a strange kind of exhaustion had settled into my bones.
Emily sat across from me, flipping through a stack of papers. The rest of my team—Jake, my PR guy; Hannah, my stylist; and Max, my tour manager—were scattered around the room, each absorbed in their own notes and laptops. Emily cleared her throat, and I snapped back to the present.
"Alright, Piper," she began, her voice crisp and efficient, "let's talk about the next steps now that the tour's wrapped up. First, we need to capitalize on the momentum we've built. Your social media engagement has been through the roof, and we need to keep that going."
Jake chimed in, "We should definitely do a behind-the-scenes documentary. Fans love getting a peek into your life offstage. It'll keep them hooked."
I nodded, feeling a bit more energized at the thought. "I like that idea. Maybe we can show some of the songwriting process too."
"Absolutely," Jake agreed, making a note.
Hannah looked up from her tablet. "We also need to think about your next look, Piper. You've been rocking the boho chic, but I think it's time for a refresh. Something that still feels like you but a bit more edgy."
I shrugged. "I'm open to idea, but I don't want a drastic change. I feel like I just found my style and sound."
Emily leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Now, here's the big one we've been mulling over. We think it's time for you to do a collaboration. Something that can really make a splash."
My heart skipped a beat. Collaborations could be tricky—if the chemistry wasn't right, it could fall flat. "Who do you have in mind?"
Emily exchanged a glance with Jake, then turned back to me. "Ben Morgan."
I blinked. "Ben Morgan?"
Emily grinned. "Exactly. He's huge right now, and you two would be dynamite together. His team is interested, and we think it could be the perfect way to keep your name on everyone's lips."
I leaned back, a knot forming in my stomach. Ben Morgan was one of the biggest names in country music, no doubt. His rich, velvety voice was legendary, and the thought of performing alongside him was... thrilling. But there was another side to Ben—his reputation, always getting into trouble, and never seen without a new girl on his arm.
Max, who'd been quiet until now, spoke up. "It would be a massive boost, Piper. The exposure alone would be incredible, not to mention how well your voices would blend."
I took a deep breath, wrestling with my thoughts. "I don't know, guys. Ben's reputation... He's always in the tabloids for something or another. I don't want to get caught up in any drama." Speaking of, there was one yesterday on TMZ's front page. i just considered myself lucky that our flirtatious exchange wasn't caught by anyone around us.
