PIPER
As the jet touched down in Los Angeles, I glanced out the window at the sprawling city below, a mix of excitement and nerves fluttering in my stomach. The Grammys were always a monumental event, but this year held a special significance—I was up for Album of the Year. The thought sent a thrill through me, a tangible reminder of how far I'd come.
Country music had really become mainstream. Kelsie Rae, another country singer who charts regularly, was also up for album of the year. I can't remember just saw two country albums from females especially up for that award.
Lara, my publicist, and Emily, my manager, were seated across from me, their voices a steady hum as they went over the itinerary for the next couple day.
"Alright, Piper," Lara said, her tone brisk and professional. "Tomorrow morning starts with the final dress fitting at 10 AM. The press junket is scheduled for noon, where you'll answer some pre-approved questions."
Emily chimed in, flipping through her notes. "We've ensured there's a break afterward so you can rest before the show. Hair and makeup will arrive at your suite around 3 PM. We'll need you ready for photos by 5 PM sharp."
I nodded, trying to focus on their words, though my mind kept drifting to the performance. The thought of hearing my name called on that stage was almost surreal.
"Lara," I interrupted, "what's the plan if reporters start asking about the album?"
Lara exchanged a glance with Emily before answering. "We'll highlight the creative process, your inspirations, and what this album means to you. It's your moment to shine, so don't hold back."
I smiled, feeling a surge of confidence. "And what about the speech? If I win?"
Emily reached over, placing a reassuring hand on mine. "Keep it heartfelt and genuine. Thank those who helped you along the way and share what this achievement means to you."
I nodded, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Emily. I just want to make sure I do it justice."
As the jet taxied to a stop, I gathered my things, mentally preparing myself for the whirlwind of the next 24 hours. Despite the chaos, the anticipation of possibly winning Album of the Year filled me with a sense of purpose and excitement. I took a deep breath, ready to embrace whatever came next, knowing that this was my moment to celebrate everything I'd worked for.
After Emily and Lara left, I finally had a moment to myself. Settling into my hotel room, I started to unpack, hanging up my clothes and arranging my things just the way I liked them. The suite was luxurious, with a stunning view of Los Angeles sprawling out beneath me. But instead of reveling in it, I found myself thinking about what to eat. I am starving!
I picked up the room service menu, scanning through the options. My stomach rumbled, reminding me that I hadn't eaten since the flight. I was just about to call and place my order when there was a knock on the door.
