Chapter 7: Bound by Duty
As the ceremony of Nikkah unfolded, Leyla felt the weight of her family's expectations bearing down on her shoulders. With each solemn vow exchanged, she knew that her fate was sealed, bound to Emmad by duty rather than desire.
As the guests bid their farewells and left the grand hall, Leyla's father's words echoed in her mind, a chilling reminder of the consequences of disobedience. With a heavy heart, she watched as her family turned their backs on her, their faces a mask of disapproval and disdain.
Alone in Emmad's opulent bedroom, Leyla found herself sitting on the floor, her back against the edge of his bed. Outside, Emmad waited patiently, allowing their guests to depart before joining her in the room.
"Why are you sitting on the floor?" Emmad inquired gently, his voice breaking the silence that hung between them.
Leyla glanced up at him, her eyes filled with defiance. "Mind your own business," she retorted, her tone sharp with resentment.
Undeterred, Emmad seated himself beside her, his presence a calming force in the midst of her turmoil. As Leyla's anger simmered, she finally broke the silence, her voice laced with bitterness.
"Why did you marry me?" she demanded, her gaze searching his face for answers.
Emmad remained silent for a moment, his eyes roaming over her features with a mixture of admiration and curiosity. Sensing his reluctance to answer, Leyla rose to her feet, her resolve unbroken.
"If you won't tell me, then I'll find out for myself," she declared, determination burning bright in her eyes.
With a soft chuckle, Emmad watched as Leyla disappeared into the adjoining room to change. As the sound of her footsteps faded, he rose from his seat, a smile playing at the corners of his lips.
Perhaps, he mused, there was more to Leyla than met the eye. And as he followed her lead, a newfound sense of anticipation stirred within him, eager to discover what lay beyond the facade of duty and obligation.
