Toby's expression darkened at Eyeless Jack's words.
"Why the suspense? Just tell me." Toby leaned his arm against the door frame.
Eyeless Jack let himself come inside, and Toby rolled his eyes. Toby closed the bedroom door so Eyeless Jack could snoop on his sleeping wife.
Eyeless Jack was in the dark, loving room. He pulled down his hood, and his brown tufts of hair stuck out from behind his mask.
"Do you realize how difficult it is going to be to raise this child?"
Toby gave Eyeless Jack a blank look before responding.
"I'm not a baby expert, but I'm pretty sure all kids are difficult to raise."
"This one is different." Eyeless Jack said.
"No dip, Sherlock; it's Slenderman's baby; of course it's going to be different."
Eyeless Jack paused, letting the hum of silence and rain linger in the air for a bit. Toby sighed in realization. The stress was getting to him. Only one day until the baby was born. That's tommorow! His mind was filled with self-doubt about being a "dad" and all that responsibility on top of his "job." Toby slouched against the kitchen counter.
"Sorry," Toby said plainly, dragging a hand down his face.
"It's alright," Eyeless Jack said, looking out the window for a little bit. When the tension died down a bit, Eyeless Jack looked at Toby again. "I just want to help."
"I know, you said you wanted to help when she was in labor and stuff."
"I want to help more than that," Eyeless Jack added.
Toby gave Eyeless Jack a more puzzled look.
"What do you mean?" Toby asked.
Eyeless Jack sat on the sofa in a formal yet awkward position.
"I want to help care for the baby,"
Eyeless Jack clasped his charcoal-gray hands together and looked up at Toby. Toby's lips pursed as he was unsure of what the consequence would be of letting a baby near his cannibal coworker.
"You mean like a babysitter?" Toby questioned, looking at Jack directly.
Eyeless Jack nodded.
"I think it would be good to expose the baby to more than just two caretakers. That way, the baby isn't isolated."
The way that Eyeless Jack was speaking made him sound soft and loving, despite his rough appearance. Toby has never really gotten to see Eyeless Jack's walls come down to the point that he almost sounds vulnerable. Toby sighed.
"I'll talk to Y/N about it," Toby said, turning to walk back to the bedroom. He noticed the storm outside. "You can sleep on the couch; just don't get mud everywhere," Toby added as he went into the bedroom, locking the door behind him.
Eyeless Jack looked around Toby's home. There was obviously improvement in the way Toby lived just by the looks of the house. Eyeless Jack took off his jacket and boots, setting them nearly by the door. Eyeless Jack was genuinely excited.
The sun peeked through the curtains of the bedroom, filling the room with a warm light. Y/N's eyes slowly fluttered open to the sound of water dripping from outside. There was fresh rain outside, covering the grass with morning dew.
Y/N yawned. It was the morning of the eighth day, and Y/N's belly looked like it was about to pop. She sighed and shifted her position on the bed, trying to get a bit more comfortable.
