Part 20. Late Birthday

"Talk to me, Lix, who is after you?" Hyunjin asked for the second time as I stayed quiet the first time he spoke.

"The man in my dream, the one that k-killed Jisung— he's trying to get me, Hyunjin." I shakily stated, staring in the distance while Hyunjin held me against the clothed surface of his chest.
I had never felt fear like it before. That feeling of being watched, stalked, complete defenseless— it was more prominent than any other feeling I had in that moment.

"What did he do, Sunny? What's making you scared?" He asked after a soft sigh, with a tone that seemed both protective and empathetic.
I took several deep breaths before I tried to speak the words that were oddly difficult to form.

"It felt so real, Hyunjin. I-i thought... I was dying." I had to pause for another breath before speaking again, refraining my emotions from getting too severe.
"He um.. he was in here a-and you were gone. I was all by myself with him and he.. he started strangling me... violently. I felt pain. I thought you weren't supposed to feel pain in your dreams." I explained, all the while he listened.
There was silence between as he settled in the startling information I'd given him. It was heavy and abnormal, obviously, but his silence only scared me even further.
Did he think I was crazy? Was he scared for himself and all the negativity I'd seemed to have been bringing? I wouldn't blame him if that was the case— the baggage I came with was more than someone should have to handle.

I could hear his heartbeat steadily pumping as he held me close in the quiet and dark atmosphere of the bedroom.

"Hyunjin.." He didn't respond, but I knew he was attentive. "Do you think I'm crazy?" I spoke quietly, weakly. My eyes welled up quickly after and he used his hand to gently make me look at him. Upon meeting his eyes, I could read his confused and shocked expression that almost looked saddened as I stared with utter defeat. I just felt down. I had been feeling this way for days.

I didn't want to be sad anymore, but it felt like there were no other options for me anymore. Everything just seemed to purposely go in a direction that brought nothing but misery. But I didn't want Hyunjin to feel a need of having to take care of me all the time.

"What? Felix, of course not! Why would you think that?" He questioned me with gentle disagreement and puzzlement.

Simply looking into how soft and emotional his dark eyes were, I felt the tears building up even more threateningly. Hyunjin's gentle demeanor while I looked like a crazy person never failed to make me feel absolutely pathetic.

"I just... it's not often people have this kind of grieving process. I shouldn't have to be cared for like I'm in some sort of nursing home. But here you are, taking care of someone who's driving themselves mad over some nightmares and paranoia they're having." I ranted and lowered my gaze, likely sounding even more odd and confused, but with the state I was in, I couldn't fully comprehend myself and own feelings either.

"Felix—"

"Won't you grow tired, Hyunjin? Having to be my personal caretaker, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave at any point—" I was cut off by his hand that lifted my chin to face him again.

"Listen to me when I say this: I don't want you to ever think you are some sort of bother or lunatic again. You are so special, Felix, and I don't think you give yourself enough credit for how strong you really are. No one else would be able to handle the loss of several people they knew within a few weeks, on top of practically clairvoyant dreams that are connecting different dots to others. You are such a fighter, Lix. A warrior, at that. The fact that you're not doing horrible things to yourself or others, it is remarkable. You're divine and strong, you just need to believe it when I say it."
