"We have a leg," a man yelled out, grabbing me by the ankle. A wave of relief went through me as I was pulled out of the pile of collapsed rubble that used to be our bed. I was met by a firefighter whose face twisted in confusion as he brought me out.

"Veronica. It's my fault she got mixed up in all this," I heard Chang's voice as the firefighter carried me. The firefighter glanced at him with disdain as he tossed me into a garbage can and went back into the room to clean it up.

I watched as Chang surveyed the room for the next few hours. I kept trying to call out to him, hoping he would save me. Instead, he stared at matchbooks and the things the fire department had pulled out of the room. He was interrupted only by the Dean asking what happened.

"Dean, the explanation is simple. It's all connected. A web of conspiracy that goes all the way to the top of Arizona!" Chang held a matchbook up, nodding at the Dean.

Nunez came out, interrupting them. He had tried to suggest that the police get involved, but in that moment, the Dean made a large mistake.

Now listen, I loved Benjamin Franklin Chang. But making him head of security? One of the worst choices anyone could make. Nothing he said really made any sense. But that still wasn't the scariest part for me.

I was still there. I just couldn't speak anymore. I had irreparable damage done to me, and the only way I knew I would heal is if he would hold me again. After the Dean left the room, Chang looked around one last time. His eyes landed on me in the trash bin. He came over, caressing me gently.

"I'm sorry, Veronica. I will avenge you. I'll burn this school down."

If I had another leg, I'd run to him. It didn't matter if it was one mile or one million miles. I would always run back to him. Why wouldn't he walk a few feet back to me?
