Author's Pov ~
On a bright afternoon, the basketball court at New Age Academy was alive with the sounds of sneakers squeaking against the pavement and the rhythmic thump of the basketball. Prisha and her best friend Kshitij had been playing for hours, their playful banter and competitive spirit making the time fly by.
"Think you can keep up?" Kshitij teased, dribbling the ball past her with a grin.
Prisha laughed, chasing after him. "You wish!"
But just as Kshitij went for a layup, his foot caught on a rough patch of pavement. He stumbled, landing awkwardly. The ball rolled away, forgotten, as Prisha rushed to his side, her heart pounding with worry.
"Kshitij, are you okay?" she asked, kneeling beside him.
He winced, clutching his ankle. "Yeah, just a twisted ankle, I think. I'll be fine."
Prisha helped him to a nearby bench, the weight of his arm around her shoulders sending unexpected warmth through her. As he sat down, she crouched in front of him, examining his ankle with care. The sight of him in pain struck her more deeply than she expected. A realization began to dawn on her, a truth she had been too blind to see until now.
"Kshitij," she began, her voice trembling slightly, "I need to tell you something."
He looked at her, concern mixed with curiosity in his eyes. "What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, Prisha met his gaze. "I think I...I think I love you. Not just as a friend. More than that."
For a moment, there was only silence between them. Kshitij's eyes widened in surprise, and he opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He looked away, then back at her, his expression unreadable.
"I...I need to think about this," he finally said, standing up, albeit with some difficulty. "I'm sorry, Prisha. I need some time."
Without another word, he limped away, leaving Prisha standing there, her heart aching with uncertainty. She watched him go, the weight of her confession hanging heavily in the air. Doubts flooded her mind. Had she done the right thing? Had she ruined their friendship?
The basketball court, once a place of laughter and camaraderie, now felt empty and cold. Prisha sat down on the bench, staring at the spot where Kshitij had just been. She hugged her knees to her chest, the echo of her words replaying in her mind.
She had taken a leap of faith, revealing her deepest feelings. But now, as she sat alone, she could only hope that it wouldn't cost her the person who meant the most to her.
