September arrived along with its chilly mornings, indication that the colder season was near.
Aurora stood hugging herself, hands tucked in the sleeves of the long black trench coat she wore. Her dark brown hair tamed neatly in a Dutch braid, ending just below the center of her spine. The wind made its presence and it didn't hesitate to tug on the navy blue bow that decorated her tail, causing her to shiver.
"Come along, darling. Hope should be around here somewhere," Eloise called out to her youngest daughter, encouraging Rory to continue walking through the sizeable crowd. Every year Hope Lupin would accompany her mother in sending them off. It was an unspoken tradition between the two families. The two mothers would blow kisses at them, send words of encouragement from the walkway, and cry once the train parted.
"When I see him, I'm going to smack him so hard his arms gonna fall off," Celeste blurted behind her. "Best friends since we were five and not a bloody letter all summer. Can you believe that arse?"
"Maybe he was busy."
The blonde witch scoffed while shoving between the now larger crowd, "Busy? For me? I think not." Aurora watched her sister's pace quicken, anger taking over the thin witch's body once she spotted him. "Remus John Lupin!"
He flinched, bracing himself for the wrath that was Celeste Enclove. "Cely, you look beautiful this morning," Remus said, attempting to ease the tension. As promised, her arm met his shoulder- compliments would not win her over in this situation, especially not based on something she already knew.
"Not a single letter! Not one! You didn't even have the decency to aparate in on my seventeenth birthday."
Aurora eyed the two, waiting for Remus' response to her madness. The mothers were too absorbed in their own conversation to notice the one sided argument.
"Broke both wrists shortly after my last visit," he explained sheepishly before lowering his voice, he pulled up the sleeves of his jumper revealing the faded bruises on his skin. "Transitioning has gotten harder the older I get, you know. And funds have been tight at casa Lupin, had to get the cheap stuff to make potions." He paused, "And why didn't you aparate in? You are seventeen, after all..."
The once pale witch was now lit up in different shades of pink. Embarrassment seeped through her body. The anger she once felt was now replaced with sadness. Celeste reached over to hug Remus, rubbing his back apologetically. "Oh Moony," she cried. "I'm so sorry, you're absolutely right. I don't know what I was thinking."
He nodded towards his best friends understandingly before putting his attention on Aurora, who now stood annoyed and shivering near the two. "Rory, I think you've dropped those bricks you call glasses."
The brunette's eyes widened, the apples of her cheeks now a slight red. She had forgotten all about her glasses. This would mark the first time Remus would see her without them. This would be the first time anyone would see her without them. She felt bare, almost. Aurora now regretted not having them with her, not being able to hide behind her thick frames. She cleared her throat, "Mum spoke to some eye witch from Russia. A few nasty brews and here we are, brick free."
