The pounding headache ached further into Lavender's mind as she entered her school building. She was sleep-deprived and what made her morning worse was that she lacked her daily cup of coffee. In her usual manner, she would wake up happily with her dad patting down on her head and telling her softly to wake up. Then, she would get ready to make her coffee and leave to go on a fifteen-minute drive in her vintage beige 1969 Volkswagen Beetle.
Indeed, quite the opposite happened when Reese dumped a glass of water over her face waking her up frantically. He thought it was hilarious, but she changed that idea very quickly when he started running downstairs with her after him. She tripped on the way slamming her head on the floor right outside of her room with a loud bang. She was too tired to scream at him but realized later while looking at the clock near her that it was five minutes until class started.
Lavender planned for revenge on her brother later.
At the moment, she was shutting her locker in pain. She did miss her first class, but it wasn't so worrying that her life skills class was not so important to her, since she had a week and a half until she graduated from Hillmont High.
"Hey Lavvy!" she heard her best friend chirp as she came closer, "Damn, rough morning?"
"Yeah, thanks to your prince charming over there." she nodded across to her brother who was softly chuckling at something his idiotic friend said next to him.
Jenny swished her head in his direction and Lavender swore that she could see actual hearts in her best friend's eyes. She groaned at the thought of her friend's feelings for her twin. Lavender pulled her arm and brought her closer to her side, "Let's go before I commit arson."
Her friend giggled at Lavender's sarcasm. Jenny was always such a mesmerizing girl to look at. Her wavy blonde hair flowed to her hips and her eye-catching smile. Yet, it was her smile that attracted most to her. She was the epitome of being sweet as a real flower but could be feisty without even noticing it herself. Everyone knew that all the guys at Hillmont had at least their first crush on Jenny Harlow, but they already knew they were rejected before they could confess to her. It was very much known to everyone that she had a thing for the lone wolf of Hillmont High, the one and only, Reese Monroe.
"I heard that we're going to be discussing love in Greek Mythology today" Jenny sighed in her lovesick tone.
"Just great, another topic to add to my list of reasons for my headache," she grunted.
"It won't be as terrible as you think, Lavvy. Everyone can love and these stories just go to show that it's what makes us humans."
"These stories are about powerful immortal beings that could obtain anything in life. Some mere humans like us don't ever get what we deserve for the status of love we want."
Jenny grabbed her arm stopping them in the middle of the quiet hallway, "I know Dean fucked up your idea of love but whatever this is, it needs to stop, immediately."
Lavender frowned and agreed with her, "Fine, it's just... he didn't need to go out of his way to ruin my life by saying the most outrageous things to me about myself."
The one guy that Lavender had been head over heels for the last three years, Dean Kingston. For those three years, they were good friends and even study mates according to him. She remembers that the first day they met, the only topic they discussed was math problems and he was insanely great at teaching it. Ever since then, she knew she liked him because of how intelligent he was.
He was everything that she was not. He was charismatic, inspiring, and downright the kindest boy living in town. Well, that is what Lavender used to believe about him until he ruined it all when she confessed to him just last week for the thrill of it. She replayed the scene in her mind a hundred times since it happened with secondhand embarrassment killing her slowly.
