When Xiao Xiao and Wang Wei got up the next morning, they had breakfast in their rental house. Xiao Xiao leisurely entered the library, and not long after, Professor Wang came looking for her.
It was not convenient to talk in the library, so the two of them walked out.
Xiao Xiao noticed that Professor Wang was looking at her with a worried expression, and there was a faint sense of frustration as if he was disappointed in her.
Xiao Xiao smiled at Professor Wang: "Teacher, do you need something from me?"
Professor Wang earnestly advised her, "Xiao Xiao, do you know how talented you are in physics? I hope you will not waste your talent."
Xiao Xiao nodded, "Teacher, I am seriously reading, I won't."
Professor Wang was still worried, "Where were you yesterday afternoon? Xiao Xiao, you may not have classes, but that doesn't mean you can relax. How about this, from now on, I will give you a reading list, and you must submit reading notes to me every week."
Xiao Xiao nodded indifferently, hoping Professor Wang could provide her with books of deeper content, which she would actually prefer.
Seeing Xiao Xiao agree so readily, Professor Wang's face relaxed. Then, suppressing his joy, he spoke about the experiment, "You've been a great help to me this time. I have reported your situation to the Academy of Sciences. If there are projects in the future, you can come and assist me."
"Can I enter the laboratory?" Xiao Xiao's eyes sparkled.
Professor Wang nodded, "Yes, how else would we do the projects?"
Xiao Xiao's eyes widened with joy; "Thank you, teacher, I will work hard." It was like being offered a pillow as she was falling asleep; she had been wondering how to get into the laboratory.
"I'll give you the reading list for next week later. Come to my office with me."
"Oh, okay."
Xiao Xiao followed Professor Wang to his office.
There were a few other physics department teachers in the office. As soon as Xiao Xiao entered, they looked at her kindly, "Xiao Xiao is here?"
Xiao Xiao greeted them one by one, "Hello, teachers."
"Good, good, Xiao Xiao, you must work hard."
"Okay, teacher."
Xiao Xiao responded with a smile, standing next to Professor Wang. The teachers' gazes were too eager, making her somewhat uncomfortable.
Professor Wang took the task of giving Xiao Xiao a reading list very seriously. He listed three books in a notebook, then crossed out two and added two more titles.
"Start with these three books. Given your level, you should be able to understand them. Of course, reading three books in a week is a bit much, and I'm not expecting you to finish all of them. Read as much as you can, but no slacking. The library has all these books, and if there are any books not available in the library, I'll find them for you," Professor Wang said as he handed the reading list to Xiao Xiao.
Xiao Xiao took a look and said somewhat embarrassedly, "Teacher, I have already read these books."
"How could that be?" Professor Wang naturally didn't believe her. The content of these three books was not within the undergraduate curriculum. It was beyond his expectations that Xiao Xiao could have read them, considering how recently she had joined the school.
"I really have read them." She pointed to the titles of the three books, calmly described their contents, and even added some details on aspects that were covered only superficially in the books.
"You've really read them? And you've grasped the knowledge inside?" Professor Wang's voice trembled slightly, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Xiao Xiao hummed in affirmation and nodded.
The commotion attracted the attention of other teachers, who gathered around and asked her several questions. Xiao Xiao answered fluently, her insights even deeper than what they could grasp. Eventually, including Professor Wang, the teachers accepted the fact that Xiao Xiao had indeed read and fully understood these books.
Looking at Xiao Xiao, Professor Wang asked excitedly, "Xiao Xiao, can you tell the teacher how many books you have read since the beginning of the term?"
How many books? Xiao Xiao thought about it. She had nearly finished reading all the books in the library of Peking University. Even if Peking's collection was small, it couldn't be less than five thousand books. If she told them the entire number, it might frighten them.
So, she conservatively said, "About three hundred books?"
"Three hundred books in a month!" The teachers exclaimed in surprise. That meant she could read about ten books a day, and given the level of understanding Xiao Xiao demonstrated, her reading was equivalent to deep comprehension.
To achieve this, an eidetic memory was basic, along with a high IQ and a level of comprehension beyond ordinary people.
Professor Wang, his face flushed, snatched the reading list from Xiao Xiao's hand and wrote down a long list.
"See if there are any on this list you haven't read."
Xiao Xiao looked and crossed off more than half directly.
Looking at the remaining list, Professor Wang adjusted his glasses, suppressed the turmoil in his heart, and said with a calm smile, "Hmm, the rest are not available in Jingda's library. If you want to read them, I will find them for you tomorrow."
Xiao Xiao was pleasantly surprised to have so many books to read and quickly thanked Professor Wang.
"You can go now, I will get the books for you tomorrow."
"Okay, teacher." As Xiao Xiao left the office, she felt the intense gaze of those behind her as if they were trying to bore holes through her body.
She went to the library for a while and then, thinking she hadn't been back to the dormitory for several days, returned to the dormitory.
Her roommates, Wang Xiaoyue and the others, were all there.
"Oh, you're all here? No classes?" It was indeed rare for them to be free at the same time.
Upon seeing Xiao Xiao, Wang Xiaoyue and Dong Wei immediately started teasing her, "Heartless! You went out with Wang Wei, leaving us alone in the dormitory."
Xiao Xiao joked around with them for a bit.
"By the way, Xiao Xiao, didn't you say you were interested in traditional Chinese medicine? I brought a few introductory books on Chinese medicine this time. You can have a look," Dong Wei said after a while, bringing out several books for Xiao Xiao.
Xiao Xiao had forgotten about this, but Dong Wei remembered.
She immediately accepted them with thanks.
She quickly flipped through the books and found the content very interesting, especially the sections on acupuncture points. During her time in the interstellar, she had researched gene serums and had a deep understanding of the human body. Xiao Xiao discovered that the discussions on acupuncture points surprisingly aligned with certain aspects of her research on the human body.
The allure of unknown knowledge always sparked great interest in Xiao Xiao, and she found herself engrossed in the books to the point of neglecting sleep and food.
However, her reading speed was so fast that, despite not being familiar with these concepts previously, she was able to recite the content of the books Dong Wei had given her within half an hour.
"Dong Wei, do you have any other books on traditional Chinese medicine at home?"
Dong Wei was in the midst of memorizing medical texts, with several voluminous books laid out on her desk, a task she found quite challenging. Surprised, she looked up, "You've finished the ones you have?"
Xiao Xiao nodded, "Yeah, I've finished them."
Dong Wei was speechless, wondering if she had heard incorrectly.
