After Xiao Xiao took away Mr. Zhang's blood and cell samples, he did not show up at the hospital for three days straight.
Mrs. Zhang tugged at Director Dong every day asking about Xiao Xiao's whereabouts; "Director Dong, didn't that Doctor Xiao say he was going to treat our old Zhang? How come he hasn't been seen for several days now? My old Zhang..." It seems like he can't hold on much longer.
Director Dong didn't know how to explain to Mrs. Zhang. Should he tell her that Xiao Xiao wasn't actually a doctor? To speak harshly, Mr. Zhang had gone through surgery and chemotherapy, enduring so much pain, it might have been better not to undergo any treatment at all and just live out the last part of his life in less pain, rather than suffering so much.
Seeing that Director Dong couldn't give an answer, Mrs. Zhang covered her mouth and cried softly.
"It seems that Doctor Xiao couldn't do anything after all, but she clearly said she could cure him..." The hope in Mrs. Zhang's eyes gradually faded, and her strength instantly drained away. Before she collapsed, her son and daughter supported her.
"Mom..." Mr. Zhang's daughter called out, then choked up, unable to speak. Since she could remember, her father was always busy, mostly not at home, and even the work he did was something they couldn't talk about.
When she was younger, she also harbored resentment towards her father, wondering why he couldn't be like other dads and spend time with his family. Now that she has grown up and started working, she understands that it's because of the millions of people like her father, who have devoted their lives to their country, that this nation is able to forge ahead through difficulties.
Her father had dedicated the best years of his life to the country and its people, only to return home with a terminal illness.
Who could save her father?
"Director Dong." Just then, a gentle voice sounded.
Mrs. Zhang looked up and saw standing at the door was Xiao Xiao, followed by several people, including Professor Wang.
Mrs. Zhang tremulously stood up, quieting her breath, "Girl, have you found a way to save my husband?"
Xiao Xiao nodded with a smile: "Yes, I've not disappointed you."
Since Mrs. Zhang was considered Professor Wang's teacher's wife, he hurried to support her upon seeing her in such a state. The elder Mrs. Zhang looked at Professor Wang in disbelief: "Is it true? Can your teacher really be save?"
Professor Wang's eyes slightly reddened: "Yes, Mrs. Zhang, we've just found a way. It won't be long before the teacher recovers."
Director Dong, hearing their conversation, found it utterly absurd. Xiao Xiao had been gone for only three days, and upon returning, she claimed to have found a cure for Mr. Zhang's cancer. It wasn't a minor cold; who would believe such a thing!
"Is what you're saying true, Xiao Xiao?" Director Dong asked skeptically.
Xiao Xiao nodded: "Director Dong, your hospital has a pharmaceutical department, right? Can the medicine be produced according to the formula provided?"
Director Dong hesitantly took the prescription and glanced at it: "The First People's Hospital does have a pharmaceutical department, but I'm not a pharmacy expert, so I can't say for sure if it would be successful." He remained skeptical of the formula; it wasn't some miraculous recipe, so could the produced medicine really treat cancer?
Xiao Xiao smiled: "The raw materials used here are not rare, and the pharmaceutical process isn't too complicated. With the capabilities of the First People's Hospital, I believe it can be successful." She turned to those involved this time: "After this, I believe everyone knows how to proceed. Handle the follow-up matters yourselves. I'll be leaving now." She was going back to spend some quality time with Wang Wei. As for the secrecy of the formula, she believed the government would handle it well.
