hey readers this is my first fan fic on this acc so i hope u enjoy! (don't be a silent reader pls, i love reading comments and receiving feedback so i can improve🫶) this book is based off chappell roan's california (aka an amazing song) all rights reserved to her.

i glanced over at asher who was staring at his computer screen like he was in a trance and sighed. what's the point of school if we have homework to do anyways? one of asher's weird rap songs started blasting on the airpod sitting in my ear so i skipped it, earning an annoyed whine from the owner of the other airpod across the table.

"hey y/n that was a good song!" asher complained, but a sudden harmony interrupted him. my head shot up as i knew exactly what the song was and turned to asher whose face had also lit up from hearing the familiar tune. "i think i'm ready to, grow.." 

hearing those lyrics made me remember the day that me and asher stayed up for it to get released and once it did, we listened to it all night no breaks. good times. nowadays we were too distracted by exams and set homework to have listening parties and all that kid shit.

suddenly the barista came over with our drinks, making me snap back into reality. i took a sip of my hot cappuccino and watched as my best friend frantically tried to cool down his mouth after taking a sip of his flat white that was way too hot.

i swiftly turned back to my computer once i saw a email shoot across my screen and spat out my coffee, some landing on asher which made him even more angry and annoyed.

"hey! what was that for?!" he yelled, but not too loudly so that the entire coffee shop couldn't hear us. i quickly spun  around my computer which showed an email from the one and only Republic Records.

it was then asher's turn to spit out his coffee. i had been working on singing and songwriting for ages now and have gained a small following on youtube and instagram but i didn't think i had blown up THAT much to get noticed by a world wide record label.

i hastily typed up my name in the youtube search bar and saw that my video had 500k views in only 6 hours of it being uploaded. i was blowing up.

"quick y/n respond to the email already!!" asher exclaimed excitedly. "alright alright geez." i laughed softly but was still in shock. once answering the email, i tried to get back to work, but i couldn't. neither could the boy across from me who was looking up information about different singers who have also been selected by Republic Records this year.

"omg y/n, you won't believe this but.. THE conan gray has also gotten a record label with Republic Records this year.. this week actually!"  asher stated with a wide grin spread across his face. my jaw dropped in shock, i could not comprehend how i was on the same level as the one and only conan gray, aka my celebrity crush. he laughed at my expression, "and i know how much you love conannnn" he teased.

"oh shut up!" i blushed, thinking about the boy. i suddenly received another email, but this one was different than the last one. it read, "we are also giving you, y/n, an opportunity to go on tour with another smaller artist also just signed to Republic Records to spread your music out to different crowds and to get more experience for the future."

my heart was beating out of my chest as i read the life changing email. it was finally happening, my music is finally going to be played to the world.
