Ugh, this was going to be awkward. It had been a few weeks since I started this job, and I was already engrossed in projects. My boss, Mr Malhotra , was... well, let's just say he wasn't exactly known for his warm personality. He was always cold and distant, and I'd been avoiding him as much as possible.
But Today was different. I had a half-day leave to ask for. Today Dhruv asked Srishti out for a DATE and she wants me to third wheel them :). This girl has gone mad for sure!!! But I can't say no because she has always stayed by my side no matter how worse the situations were,and I can't let her down ,so for this sake I have to go . I don't have any option.
My stomach twisted as I walked towards his office. I felt like a kid about to ask for permission to go to a friend's house.
I knocked, and he said, "Come in." He barely glanced at me, his face a mask of boredom. "Yes, what is it, ms.sharma ?" he asked, his voice flat.
"I... I need to ask for a half-day leave," I stammered, feeling my cheeks heat up.
He gave me a look that could freeze a glacier. "I'm sorry, but I can't give you leave today. You don't get to just ask for time off whenever you feel like it," he said, his tone icy.
"But...," I tried to explain, feeling a lump forming in my throat.
"Dont bother me to explain it again ms.sharma " he said, cutting me off. "Get back to your work."
I felt a wave of disappointment wash over me. I just nodded, unable to speak, and walked out of his office. I was so frustrated. It wasn't like I was asking for a whole day off. I just wanted to go out with my friends, But Mr. Malhotra was determined to make my life miserable. I slumped back into my chair.
But I am not one to easily accept defeat among those who give up. And If he does not grant my leave, I have an alternative strategy to secure approval.I will not let my friend's date get ruined because of me!
Without wasting my time I took my phone out of my bag and texted Dhruv and Srishti " listen , this your so called 'best friend' is ruining your plan you better do something about it!!"
Srishti: Dhruv,do something if Tara doesn't come then forget about our date!
Dhruv- Okayy relax, Will be there in an hour . He replied to our message.
Meanwhile I started completing all my important works.

"Come in,"I said, barely looking up from my laptop. The knock had startled me out of my concentration, but I knew it would be Dhruv. He was the only person I trusted enough to just walk in.
He settled into the chair opposite me, his usual easy smile replaced by a slightly nervous expression. "So, what brings you here?" I asked, finally looking up.
"Your Bhabhi,"he replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
I stared at him, eyebrows raised. "What do you mean by that?"
"Oh, come on, you know what I mean," he said, grinning. "Your 'just friend.?" I ask. " You know I love her." He says
I chuckled, knowing he was referring to Srishti, his best friend. They definitely had something going on, and I was pretty sure it was more than just friendship. "So, what about her ?"
"Today, I'm taking her out on a date,"he said, his voice a little too excited.
"Oh great then have a good date"I said
"But you're ruining it,"he said, his voice suddenly dropping.
"What did I do ?"I asked, confused.
"Don't you know that Tara, your company intern, is Srishti's best friend?" he said, his words making me shock . "Srishti wants her to come along, like a third wheel. But You didn't granted her leave, so if she doesn't come, then the whole thing is ruined!" He says in one go.
"I understand But Dhruv, we have a ton of work to do, I can't just-
"Please, man," he pleaded, his eyes wide and pleading. "Just this once. I'm begging you."
He was giving me the puppy dog eyes, and I knew I was doomed. "Fine," I sighed, giving in.
"why don't you join us?" Dhruv said, his voice a little too casual for the request that was coming.
"Bruh- why am I even asking you it's final ,You have to come with me to accompany me like how Tara is accompanying Srishti "
"No," I said, my voice firm. "Absolutely not. What makes you think I'll do it "
His grin faltered, replaced with a look of wounded surprise. "Come on,Bhaii Think as if It's just a friendly hangout,Also you can get to know about them."
"What should I do by knowing them !? I mean isn't it your date? Just go on your own then" I crossed my arms, my patience wearing thin.
Dhruv slumped back in his chair, a sigh escaping his lips. " I didn't knew one day you would do this to me. I mean why would you come with me , mai Tera kya hi lagta hu " he says with fake Tears
He knew what he was doing!! aghhh this man is good in emotional black mailing people! I don't want to go !! But then again he is my only best friend , the only person I could trust.
"Stop this emotional black mail, Dhruv,"I said, my voice softening.
He looked at me, his eyes earnest. "Mihir, please. Just this once. It's just for a few hours.You don't have to do anything,just be there to accompany me, you know right this date means so much to me"
He looked so genuine. Not gonna lie but he do love Srishti a lot since a long time. And I won't like if someone ruins it. Even if I'm the one.
'Fine,' I sighed, defeated. "But only for few hours "
Dhruv's face lit up. "Okayy doneee !! Thank you, Mihir. And I promise you won't regret this." " we'll see about that" I reply
He then gave me a quick hug, his excitement palpable. I felt a pang of annoyance, but beneath it, a strange feeling of warmth. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all. After all, Dhruv was my friend, and I was there for him, just like he had been there for me.
