Raoul lunged at Selene, ready to tear her apart, but once again Lucas came to her rescue, drawing his kyoketsu. The old hunter drew an invisible line between her and the werewolf, spinning the knife attached to the cord menacingly.

"Damn it, Selene! What's wrong with you? React!"

The girl snapped out of her daze at the hunter's shouts. She had to do something, but what? She needed to tell Lucas that it was Raoul... but would that be enough to stop the hunter from killing him? Lucas cared about the boy, but his hatred for werewolves surpassed any affection. Selene decided to keep it to herself for now.

While the wolf was busy deflecting Lucas's knife with his claws, the scout had crouched down on one knee, hastily preparing a remedy. He took some herbs from his pocket, tearing and chewing them together to make a paste. Selene recognized the scents: rue, verbena, and periwinkle. They were powerful sedatives against many monsters, including lunarians, but he had to enchant them for them to take effect.

Meanwhile, Raoul managed to get the upper hand on the hunter. The werewolf caught the knife mid-air, indifferent to the fact that the noble ruthenium blade was smoking in his clenched palm. Lucas realized too late the monster's plan: the kyoketsu cord was wrapped twice around his entire forearm. Raoul pulled, and Lucas was thrown into the air, flying into the river. Clever.

Now the werewolf seemed to be targeting the guardian.

"Damn it..." the scout hissed through clenched teeth.

The wolf charged at him, but the man reached for another small pouch hidden in his boot. When Selene smelled the herb he was about to throw in the beast's face, she shouted in outrage, "Are you crazy? Theine excites them!"

The scout didn't listen to her, and as the wolf hit him, he unfurled the tea packet in the beast's face. The werewolf began sneezing violently, howling in intoxication and itchiness. For a moment, he lay inert on the ground... but with a few groans, he stood up again all in one piece.

"Haven't you ever heard of an overdose?" he explained painfully to the girl. However, the scout quickly stopped with an alarmed look. "Hey, what are you doing?"

What was he referring to now? Selene turned to find out: Lucas had resurfaced from the water and had drawn his largest throwing knife. He was aiming, ready to strike the wolf. Selene's eyes widened... he was going to kill Raoul.

As Lucas prepared to throw, Selene took off running. The knife left the pirate's hand... and would surely have embedded itself in the wolf's back if Selene hadn't deflected it with her silver knuckle-duster.

Barely... but when the girl met her mentor's eyes, she found only a fierce, questioning glare piercing her. Meanwhile, the scout was cursing at the sky: the remedy was irrecoverable; when the werewolf had charged at him, it had spilled on the ground, dissolving in the water.

"We need to flee. It won't take him long to recover."

Selene agreed and looked at the stairs... too risky. In a few leaps, he would catch up to them, and worse, they would drag him into the village. Then she looked at the river.
