"Ziaaaaa"
She woke up with a start ,beads of sweats Clinged on to her forehead , hair, cloths and bedspreads, she must have fallen asleep again she reasoned .
That voice she was certain she knew who it belonged too, but yet it felt foreign to her , nevertheless she had no more time to dwell on the dream , Lara was sitting right their infront of her , her faced masked with worry and understanding but she didn't know why , she began sitting up straight so she could access her sister better .
"No don't, just lay back down" Lara said putting a hand to her shoulder to guide her back down .
"What happened Lara , Did I wake you again? " She asked knowing fully well she did , her sister wouldn't have come into her room if she wasn't screaming like a mad woman at an ungodly hour , she peered out through her window that stood at the right side of her bed , she was right the sun hadn't made an appearance it was still as pitch black as when she had stupidly fallen asleep.
"You may have screamed so loud I'm sure the entire town must have heard you , even from the eastern boarders too" Lara said, but she caught the tiny glimpse of playfulness in her sisters eyes and that sly smile she held, she knew it was just a joke, but nevertheless she was certain she had screamed, her throat felt patched and dry but she couldn't remember what made her scream.
All she remembered was the voice and the words it said "welcome back, Zia" .
Who was he?, Was that even a he or a she, she had no clue but she could tell it held some form of authority and masculinity, but she didn't want to start naming things and putting pronouns here and there, so she sighed, how truly tired she felt at that moment, certain she didn't sleep for long.
"Is everything okay Zia?" She turned to look at Lara who in turn was already looking at her , her brows furrowed trying to understand what was wrong with her little sister .
"I'm fine Lara, it was just some silly nightmare , you should get some sleep, it's still late and we need to be up early tomorrow so we can visit ma and pa before anyone knows we went" she knew Lara wouldn't understand her dreams that was why she never told her, she never told anyone, nobody knew what troubled zia lint .
Deep down she prayed her sister would drop the topic and just go back to sleep, she was always hard to reason with and right now Zia just needed time alone, she wanted to think wanted to cry and worst of all she wanted nothing else but to scream again. she hadn't had the privilege of meeting her ma or pa, both died right after she was born, sad isn't it? She thought so to, but they were far more hidden secrets she was sure no one was telling her about .
Like how she had never met a single relative of theirs, how Lara forbade her from ever going into the forest that surrounded the northern parts of Avonle, or how her parents burial sites were not even in the cemetery or around the town, it was nothing but a tomb of sand and dead flowers, whenever she sort to ask Lara, she brushed it away like it was nothing and made to change the topic.
That was the least of her troubles right now, she just wanted to be alone and think.
"Okay fine, I'll let you get some rest but if you need me Zia just call my name and I'll come running in okay, I'm sure something's up, but I'll let you have this one, but please don't scream like a madwoman again and wake up the whole town" Lara said sounding not even close to being upset.
she finally stood up heading for the door , she turned right back and took a once over of her little sister, she sighed and left. Closing the door right after .
"Psshhh" she breathed out, she was finally alone, in the darkness of her shabby room, nothing of importance or of value had been kept in that room, it was as empty as her.
Taking the covers off her frail body, she placed her legs on the worned out floors that had a dark brown carpet she was sure wasn't brown at some point, her thin night dress that flowed easily with the breeze clung to her poor malnourished body and pale skin, it wasn't her fault that she was so pale and malnourished, but she was proud of the little fat she held in some places. For an 18 year old lady she had round and firm bossoms with enough fat to balance her behind and her stomach that was so thin from having not eating enough of anything.
Her dark curls that bounced around her face as the breeze blew in and out of her room, needed a wash sooner or later, her face the shape of a strawberry, such sharp eyes the colour of grey storm that she was sure was hunted stood out in the dimly lit room, her round chapped lips that had seen years and years of harmattan and not a single kiss, she sighed such was life, who would want to kiss a lady with such ugly features.
She often referred to herself as an ugly cursed girl, who nobody was stupid enough to court or Marry, not to talk of how poor she and her sister were, life was a miserable mess for her.
She took light steps walking out of her room and towards the back exit making not a single noise so as not to wake or alert lara of her plans to take a walk outside.
She needed to clear her head and what other best thing to do other than take a stroll in the town alone, and avoiding the eyes of those prying and wicked women and men who made jest of her and her poor sister.
She took a coat and a shawl from the coat stand at the front door and made her way for the back exit, quietly and quickly she slipped into the night air and breathed a sigh of relief, she was happy to be outside and away from the comfort of her bed. And so she thought, deep down she knew the only reason she came out here was to avoid sleeping, sleep was not in her to do list for today, she was going to avoid it as much as she could.
She walked all the way to the front of the shabby old building she called home, not remembering how she even came about this house, all she remembered was growing up with Lara and then bad things began to happen, bad things like her dreams, people calling her and her sister horrible names and then they was the fact that nobody even liked her in this horrid town.
She sighed once again, enough of this thinking she thought, she just needed to walk around, have her lungs filled with air and go back inside before Lara noticed she were ever gone to begin with.
She walked around looking at the buildings that she passed by, the cobbled stone path was a bit watery from the rain that had fallen the morning before now, she passed shops and houses not knowing how long she had walked for, finally she came to a stop at the gates that stood tall at the furthest Conner of town and abandoned old building stood at the other side of that gate, it's ominous feeling doing nothing to ease Zia, she brought out a hand and touched the gates, she didn't know what made her to or why she felt the need but she was certain she didn't want anything to do with this.
She looked down at the giant lock that held the gates in place she didn't understand why someone would lock up a mansion like this if they lived inside or was no one an inhabitant of this building, she thought out loud.
Maybe they just wanted privacy or had moved away, she didn't want to stick around and find out she turned around and headed for home.
Just as she turned she heard her name being called "Zia".
It sounded like someone had called out to her but from where and who? She turned back around in search of the person, no one was their, just her standing alone in her coat at an ungodly hour, how foolish of an idea this was, she thought out loud, what if someone kidnapped her, God Lara would make so much of a fit that she was certain the whole town would split in half.
She laughed at the thought of Lara stomping down to everyone's house and demanding they looked for her, that was Lara such an overprotective big sister never looking out for herself but for everyone else.
She started for the walk home, making as little noises and she could to not attract whatever was hiding away in darkness towards her, once she saw the familiar features of her home she slowed her steps not eager to return to laying in bed, as she made the turn to the back of the house and headed for the door she heard it again her name, but this time it was right beside her left ear, she turned sharply searching desperately in the darkness who called her and what could have followed her home.
After she was certain she couldn't see anyone she hurried inside, hung the coat and shawl up and made as little noise as she called trying to reach her room, finally she slid into her room doing a once over to see everything was still as she left it, empty and scattered.
Making her way to her bed when she heard the floorboard cringe behind her, she stilled surely they couldn't be someone in her room right? No, Lara was asleep and no one else lived here, she was to scared to turn around but she had to.
She decided to ignore it maybe it's a mouse, but mouse's aren't heavy enough to make floorboards cringe, she breathed out sharply and turned, nothing.
No one was their, she laughed maybe her mind was playing tricks on her, she needed to really sleep or she'd surely run mad like Lara predicted.
She made for the bed and lay'ed down, placing the bed covers over her she faced up, now what, she thought.
Minutes had passed as she lay'ed in that same position aware of every inch of everything around her, she sighed, this was so boring she needed to sleep but yet she couldn't.....she decided she had enough, she closed her eyes and prayed to all they was out their to let her find peace just this once.
The same thing happened, the shadows danced around her dragging her deep down and then she landed in the forest, dark and scarry, only one thing was left now, the voice ...just as she thought this she felt the wind change, someone else was here, she felt the presence, she stood up looking around desperately, no one.
She sighed, she had finally ran mad, just as she made to walk deeper into the dark woods she heard it " welcome back, Zia ...."
She gasped looking around frantically, surely they can't be another human in her dreams? Did that kind of thing even happen, why were they always here, always after her and saying the same words.
"Hello" she called out.
"Mine" it said.
Wait what! She didn't understand what was going on. Who were they, and where in God's name did they come from and why did they know her name, why did they call her mine.
Just as she turned she saw a dark figure hidden in the shadow, she was certain it looked like a man, she gasped, how?!
"You are mine Zia, mine "
"Hello, sorry I don't know you or how I or you got here but do you know a way out " she shouted back to the figure who hadn't move.
"You are mine Zia" it kept repeating.
She didn't understand, she was whose? And who was the figure, just as she made to turn he appeared right infront of her.
golden irises that housed so many darkness stared into hers.
She gasped "you".
And then she woke.
