"I've pumped your stomach and re-hydrated your body. It's going to be okay, Shane." A tall man with a fluffy mustache and glasses taps on his clipboard while leaning back in his wheeled chair.
Shane, a short man with messy, uneven stubble lies in a hospital bed. He groans and turns his head over to look at the doctor. "Harvey..? How'd I get here?" He mumbles out.
"You were with the farmer, correct?"
"Yeah..?"
Harvey leans forward in his chair, the wheels squeaking as he scribbles on his clipboard, "They brought you here after you passed out." He un-clicks his pen and sets it on his desk along with the clipboard.
"Fuck me.. I'm always relying on em'.." Shane turns his head back to stare up at the ceiling. He lets out a sigh before immediately coughing afterwards.
Harvey rolls his chair over to the side of the bed quickly and places his hand over the shorter one's chest.
"You alright? You know.. you should really stop handling your health issues all by yourself." He calmly says with a solemn face, his hand moving to brush some of Shane's hair out of his face.
He coughs a bit more but manages to calm down and speak, "Whatever. I don't need help.." Shane grumbles before flipping onto his side, his back facing the doctor.
Harvey's expression contorts into one of worry and sympathy. He rolls his chair over to face Shane once more.
"Just leave me alone, Harv. I'm better off-"
"Dead?" Harvey cuts in.
Shane stays silent and furrows his eyebrows, his eyes darting to the side.
Harvey gets up from his chair and sits down on the hospital bed, "Shane.. I need you to talk to me." He puts his hand on the shorter one's hand, squeezing it gently.
Shane's eyes quickly dart to look at their hands, the doctor letting their fingers intertwine.
"I'm so worried for you," Harvey begins. "You mean a lot to me. I don't get how you haven't noticed."
Shane's eyes widen as his cheeks start to burn up. His expression immediately turns defensive and he retorts, "Now you're just lying to me. How could someone ever care about me this much?"
He huffs and closes his eyes, snatching his hand away from Harvey's.
"First off, didn't the farmer bring you here? That must mean they care for you."
Shane stays silent.
"I'm treating you and I'm concerned for your health. Doesnt that mean I care for you?"
"No. That means you're just doing your damn job." Shane snaps back.
"Would someone who is just 'doing their job' hold your hand and get all close and personal with you?" Harvey asked, bringing Shane's hand back to his own.
Shane stayed quiet once more.
"That's what I thought." The doctor breathed out.
"I just don't see why-"
Harvey leans down and kisses Shane before he could finish his sentence. Catching him by surprise, Shane jolts but immediately melts into their sweet but gentle kiss.
Harvey slowly breaks the embrace of their lips but keeps his face close to Shane's, "I don't ever want you to doubt how much I care for you."
He caresses Shane's face with a soft smile, "I want you to rely on me. To come to me when you need help."
The shorter one just stares at the doctor, his face gradually getting redder and redder.
"I'll let you rest for now. I'll check back up on you in a few hours." Harvey sighed contently before standing up and making his way to the door.
"Harvey."
He stopped at the door and looked back to the hospital bed.
"...Thank you. I guess." Shane mumbled, his hand bringing the hospital sheet up to his chin.
Harvey paused for a moment before his face turns into a warm smile. He exhaled softly and chuckled, "Of course, Shane. Call me if you need anything else."
With that, he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Shane took a moment to process what had just happened. He curled up in the bed and swiftly covered himself with the sheet, his face burning up and his thoughts racing through his mind.
He decided he should follow the doctor's orders and shut his eyes, eventually drifting off to sleep.
