The Light in the Dark

CHAPTER 7, I JOINED THE WEIRD GROUP AT SCHOOL

After what felt like forever; my suspension was over and I was able to go back to school. When I got to the school, people were just staring at me and some were turning to their friends and whispering.

I tried to pay no attention to them then I got to my locker. My locker had a weird note on it. It said "Go to the water fountain during free period. The one where the accident took place."

I looked at the note confusedly. After looking at the note for some time; I realized what the person was talking about. The accident where I had hurt Jacob, the reason why I was suspended. The same day I learned I had powers and the same day I met my brother for the first time in 10 years, the same day my life changed.

I went to first period and my math teacher, Mr. Oliver, shot me a look that was more like a glare. He always treats me as if I was this bad kid, even though I was one of the kids with a high grade in his class.

He walked up to my desk and stared down at me "It seems like our class troublemaker is back from their little suspension." he said looking at me.

"Hello to you too Mr. Oliver," I said, avoiding eye contact.

"Now that you're back, I want no problems out of you. The last thing we need is..."

"Uh, sir." A new voice called out "When you're lecturing the kid, weren't you in the middle of talking to me about being a disruption."

Mr. Oliver turned back, glaring at the kid and snarled. "You're being one right now."

"Aww what's wrong old man, am I being annoying?"

"Alexander Martin! That is enough!" Mr. Oliver yelled. He then pinched the bridge between his eyes and turned to me. "I'm watching you, Ross."

Like, come on. Did this dude have to say my last name? I hate my last name.

I then looked at the kid, he was then smiling at me. He then mouthed the words "water fountain" to me. It took me a while to realize what he was talking about but then it hit me; the note I got in my locker. Was he the one that gave me the note?

After 5 long periods, it was time for lunch and 30 minutes of free time.

I grabbed my lunch and headed outside right to where I was called to. The water fountain with a statue of our school animal: a bear. I walked over to the location and saw a kid walk over to the water fountain.

It wasn't the same boy from earlier, he had pure black hair that was long like Leo's, but his hair was wolf cut and it covered his face a little. He had a dark goth aesthetic. He continued to walk to me then stopped when we were face to face. He wasn't much taller than I was, we were just about the same height. He sighed and took his lollipop out of his mouth. "Daniel Ross, I assume?" He spoke up. His voice was low but it was very high in tone and soft like he was around the age of a 5th grader. I guess puberty didn't hit him yet.

"That's me." I said nervously.

He gave me a small nod, then turned. "Follow me." He said as he started to walk away.

I followed him. He was leading me in the direction of where the quote on quote "Weird kids" or the group of kids everyone thought was weird would go every free period.

When we finally stopped, I looked around at where we were, there was a small group of kids. Two girls, one with beautiful light brown hair with pink streaks. She has green eyes and she was wearing a flower dress that went down to the bottom of her knees, she was also wearing clear blue sandals. The other girl was wearing a purple school jacket which was a jacket that had the school's logo and initials, BHS on it. She was also wearing light blue shorts with black leggings under them. She had short, dark brown curls and darkish skin.

Then there was the same boy from earlier, he had dark brown eyes and with blonde hair. He was wearing a red school t-shirt with a black long sleeve under it. He was also wearing jeans with red converse.

He looked at me and ran up to me. "Wow, you're here." he said "And here I was thinking you wouldn't show up, but wasn't I wrong."

The boy behind me walked up and started to talk again. "Xander, leave the kid alone." he said "And plus he's here for questioning and an interrogation."

"Wait what!" I said backing away.

The girl with the dress then spoke up while she slapped the kid in the head. "Peirce!" she said "This is not an interrogation, this is a little bit of questioning and making him feel welcome. Can you be nice and responsible for one second?"

Peirce, I'm guessing his name was groaned and crossed his arms. "You never let me have any fun."

The girl rubbed his head gently. She then looked up at me and smiled. "My name is Emilie Grace, this little bundle of cuteness and terror is Peirce..."

"I'm not cute!" he said glaring at her.

She sighed and smiled. Then she pointed to the girl in the hoodie. "That's Tiara Millar. She's been my best friend since second grade and we're still friends."

Tiara started to walk over. "Yup that's right." She said then held out her hand. "Nice to meet ya, newbie."

I smiled then shook her hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you too." I said.

She let go of my hand and placed it on her hip. "I'm guessing you already met hotshot, right?" She pointed toward Alexander.

Alexander walked over to me and adjusted his shirt. He then stroked his hair back with his hand as he smiled and took my hand. "The names Martin, Alexander Martin." He said as he kneeled down with my hand still in his. "But please, feel free to call me Xander." out of nowhere, he kissed my hand and winked at me.

I just stood there completely flustered while Peirce facepalmed, Emilie stood there in shock as well as Tiara did. Tiara yelled "What the heck, Xander?!" she then slapped him in the back of the head. "Why would you do that?!"

He looked up at her "What? Can I not be friendly?" he asked

"Dude, you literally just kissed his hand! That's weird, you know."

"Come on. He's just fine." He then looked up at me smiling. "Aren't ya, cutie?" he said, raising an eyebrow.

I stood there completely dumbfounded. I looked down at Xander as he continued to hold my hand and smile at me. "Why did you just call me cute?"

"Can I not call you something you are?"

Tiara slapped him again. "I'm going to hit you with a rake if you continue to make him uncomfortable."

"Ow!" he yelled. "Fine." He stood up. "I'll see you later, cutie." I had no idea where it came from but a rake came flying towards Xander. He looked at the rake flying towards him and his right eye started to glow the same color that Leo's eye did. The rake stopped right in front of him as if he used some sort of...wait, no. He turns to Tiara and with a deadpan expression. "Was that necessary?"

I stood there, unable to speak. I didn't know what to do so...I screamed. And with that scream where I was pretty sure the whole school heard that, I began as fast as I could away from that place. As I ran, I went inside this weird void, when I got to the other side I was right back to where I was before. "Wha—What?" I said my voice was trembling.

"Yeah, we probably should have explained to him before we just randomly used our powers." Peirce said, finally finishing his lollipop. "Thanks a lot you two, you freaked him out." He turned to Tiara and Xander.

Emilie sighed and walked up. "I think it's time we explained to you why we wanted you here.
