"Bye Dad", Maddie waves to her dad as we get out of the car.
"bye Mr. Johnson"
"Have fun at school, girls. I'll pick you up later today", he says as he drives off.
"Quick Emma, we're gonna be late for Mr. Roger's science class"
"science? Doesn't he teach math? Also, are there any other teachers in this school?", but Maddie's already running off so I follow her to class.
"Good evening class. Today I will be assigning partners to work together for the science project. However, it seems like we're missing someone today.", right on cue, biker boy comes in late yet again.
"Ah, Mr. Hudson, so nice of you to grace us with your presence today."
"Missed you too Martha.", and again, just like yesterday, the whole class bursts into laughter including Maddie who's gasping for air.
"Haha, you get it? He's a guy but his name is Martha. That's a girl's name."
"I get the joke, Maddie. You don't need to explain it to me."
"But you weren't laughing?"
"Cause it wasn't funny.", I retort as Zach takes his seat. He seems to be staring at Maddie for some reason but honestly, that is none of my business.
"Alright. Now that everyone's settled down I'll be telling you who your partners are. You will be working in groups of three but since there's an uneven number of people there will be one group of two which will be Maddison Johnson and Zack Hudson."
"HUH WHAT", Maddie says loudly as everyone turns to stare at her.
"Oh- I'm- s- sorry.", she apologizes as Zack lets out a chuckle.
"Anyways, use the rest of this class time to work with your partners."
"But you only said that Zack and Maddie were partners. You didn't tell the rest of us who-", I'm about to ask but a short skinny boy with glasses holding a Game Boy and a chubby boy eating a sandwich approach me.
"Okay... so I'm guessing you guys are my partners?"
"Yep. My name is Felix Nerdstorm. I love video games!", says the one holding the game boy as he fixes his glasses.
"Is that a joke?"
"Is what a joke?"
"Like your name is actually Nerdstorm?"
"yeah, why?"
"...", I stare at him waiting for him to laugh.
"...", but he just stares back with complete sincerity in his eyes.
"...Anyways....What's your name?"
"Sup. I'm Gus Chubbs. Want a bite of my burger?", he says with his mouthful.
"Uh...no I'm good.", I say ignoring the fact his last name is just as ridiculous.
"More for me I guess.", I watch in absolute horror as he proceeds to swallow the burger whole. He then sits down and pulls another one out of his backpack.
"Hey, what's your favorite game?", says Nerdstorm who talks like he has his sinuses clogged constantly.
"idk what's yours?"
"Kingdom of the Lost Forest 2 it's this game where you-"
"yeah I'm gonna stop you right there. Do either of you know what this project is about? Like what do we have to do? He didn't give us any information."
