« And 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 ... Come on ! Concentrate ! »
It's the last five minutes of a 3-hours lesson and Mrs Baker is having a hard time trying to make us stay focus on the routine she is teaching us.
« Ok, I give up ... Class dismissed . » she finally sighed.
I was walking to the changing room when she call me back. What have I done wrong ? I'm a bit scared while I'm joining the corner of the room where she is standing.
« Don't give such a face ! Nobody is dead ! » she laugh at me. I smiled shyly.
"I was just thinking about something. In two weeks there is an audition in Oxford for Billy Elliot. You know, the musical in the West End ? I think you're good enough to join it . What do you think of that ?"
I remain silent for a couple of minutes, thinking about all she said to me then I try to answer. "Herr, but I only know breakdancing. Ain't Billy Elliot boys supposed to know ballet and all that stuff ? I mean herr ..."
"Come on Duncan, this is not an issue. They can teach you that. You know how to move and you enjoy dancing and performing. That's what they are looking for. None of the boys who go to the auditions already knows all the Billy stuff before they go ! It's just training ! But you've got the potential, trust me ! Of course if you think it's not for you, you can't handle it or anything, don't go to the audition but you maybe won't have another chance ..."
She knows how to persuade me. " Ok, I get change then I come back here with my mum so you can explain her what this audition is ..." She smiled "I knew you would find your minds again".
I rushed to the changing room and five minutes later I was back with my mother, Angelica.
"Mrs Bishop ! Does Duncan tell you why he want you to hurry up so much ?" They both laugh.
"Not at all ! He just says me you wanna talk to me !" They laugh again. I feel a bit uncomfortable. Mrs baker then explain to my mum everything she has already said me and where it will exactly take place. As everybody was enjoying the idea of letting me participate to this audition, we went back home.
