Hello! This is my audition for AngeBlancRose's graphic war. It took me about four or five hours, so it was pretty much the most complex cover I've ever designed. These are the resources I used:

The prompt was as following:

It took me ages to even find an idea. I wanted something special, something that stands out. So I started resource hunting and at first, I tried to make a snake kind of slither around the potion bottle. But somehow, I couldn't find a snake that worked and then I realised it was probably the obvious thing to do. I'd already spent at least an hour on the cover by then.

Then I had the idea to include a witch, so I searched for a good picture that fit the graphic, which was harder than I thought. I found the one in the cover then and first, I simply put her at the bottom of the cover, making the bottle float, because I didn't want her in the focus as my strength is object-based covers. Then I came up with the idea to put her in the potion, conjuring the snake. I think I was at two hours then.

I spent the next hour manipulating her into the bottle with tons of effects, layers etc. I'd added the snakes at the top left and the bottom right earlier on, so the next thing to do was typography.

First, I used one of my favourite fonts that didn't really compliment the graphic though. So I tried a different one which made the cover look much better. I'd decided to make the text gold as most turquoise covers have silver text work but that would have looked a little boring.

Last but not least, I added more effects for the turquoise colour scheme, darkness and stuff.

In total, the graphic has 51 layers in Photoshop, which is my personal record.

Feel free to tell me your thoughts on the graphic in the comments! Constructive criticism is always welcome, of course!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Love, Amy

Update, evening of the same day...

I had to change the potion bottle as AI Images are forbidden (even if they are from Pixabay), which is a very good decision, by the way! I believe AI is taking over too much in graphic design.

This is the new cover:

I almost prefer this one! The bottle somehow matches the cover better
