Why wasn't he picking up the phone?

I pouted, looking at my phone screen while spinning in my cubicle chair. It was the end of my shift, when I got the sudden urge to hear Raj's voice, but he wasn't answering.

I called him again for the fourth time, but there was still no answer.

Where was he so busy that he couldn't even answer my call?!

I huffed, and wrote a text.

Bestie:

Bhul gaye na mujhe🥺
I hate you!! (I miss you, call me when you are free.)

I hit the send button and leaned back in my chair, closing my eyes. I don't know why, but I wasn't feeling good, it felt like something was going to happen. My heart was filled with an odd unease.

A few minutes later, I heard the ping of my phone.

I looked at the screen, and there was a notification from Raj.

Bestie:

I'm busy, shona. Will call you later, okay.
Miss you more.❤

Busy to answer a call, but not busy to text? I thought in my mind.

Sighing, I took my belongings and left the office, waving goodbye to my colleagues.

I was driving down the road, when I spotted a colorful chaat corner on the side of the street. My cravings kicked in right away, and I pulled over near it. I was already feeling down; some spicy food would definitely lift my spirits.

I got out of my car and headed towards it. The aroma of the spices made my mouth water. "Baba, ek plate chaat." I said to the old vendor.

He nodded and I watched him skillfully making the chaat, adding a generous drizzle of chutneys, a sprinkle of sev, then topped them with pomegranate seeds and coriander leaves, and then handed it to me.

I bit off a tiny morsel, and my first bite was pure bliss. The tangy and spicy seasonings on the soft potatoes, combined with the sweetness of pomegranate, made my taste buds dance with delight.

But still it didn't help in lifting my mood. What's wrong with me?

I had eaten half of it, when I heard-

"Ye kya bekar sa kha rahi ho?" A deep male voice came from my side.
(Why are you eating such disgusting thing?)

Ughhh.

My eyes fluttered close in disbelief.

I was so cautious today! So so fucking cautious!! To avoid this psycho and his coincidences, I drove straight from my house to the office in the morning and did not come out until my shift.
