(Her family calls her Amrit, don't think that as a typo mistake)
AMRITA
"If Mrs. Kaushik had not been brought here in time, she might not have survived."
It was as if a scalpel had punctured my lungs as I heard the words of Dr. Anurag Patil, who has been handling my mother's case for months.
My father took a heavy breath beside me and his voice croaked as he uttered his next words. "Will she be okay now?"
The creases in Dr. Anurag Patil's forehead deepen as he let out a sigh looking at my mother's report. "She's fine for now but Mr. Kaushik, I won't lie to you. There isn't a much improvement seen in her body, it's as if she isn't responding to the chemotherapy treatment. And the main factor is her chronic stress. She's under too much stress."
His eyes, which held years of experience, looked at us, "That is what happened last night; the constant elevations of stress hormones raised her blood pressure to the point of a heart attack."
"She is too tensed. In this state of her, no medications may recover her. I don't want to make you all worry, but that's the truth."
Papa's shoulders slumped, and he covered his face with trembling hands. My eyes got moist seeing him like this, the man who had been the pillar of our house getting weak like this for his love.
Dr. Patil sighed and then wrote something on the paper. "I'm writing few medicines for her. Keep giving them to her as prescribed until her next chemo session."
After a few moments of scribbling, he handed me the prescription. "If anything confuses you, do call me okay?"
I mumbled lightly, "Okay."
"Take care of her. Keep her away from heavy topics that could effect her health, and try to create a happy and light environment for her."
I nodded grasping his words. He stood up from his chair and fastened the button of his lab coat.
"I'll see you later. I've few patients to attend." Nodding, he left his cabin, which were adorned with his years of achievements.
My thoughts ventured to the past hours. After Tanya informed me about my mother, it felt like the air was sucked out of my lungs. I began panicking and hyperventilating, but she handled me, and then we both came here in her car.
When I reached there my mother was under observation, with my family waiting outside CCU.
I was glad Raj's parents, Mr. Vinay and Mrs. Ragini Shukla were also present. They have been always with us.
I sighed and looked at the clock, it was already nine in the morning.
Sighing, I rested my head on my father's shoulder. Instantly, he put his chin on my head and wrapped his arm around me, making me lean on him.
