OCTOBER, 2020.
DEDA HOSPITAL,
ABUJA, NIGERIA."Jaiyana, please wake up. Don't leave me like your father did. Please, Jaiyana," Safna sobbed, holding Jaiyana's pale hands in hers. After their conversation, she had resumed watching her movie, only for El-Kabir to come in bearing the tragic news of Jaiyana's accident. It was reported that a trailer had collided with her car, causing it to somersault. Jaiyana was thrown from the vehicle, and those present thought she was dead due to the severity of the scene. However, she was brought to the hospital.
Safna and El-Kabir arrived immediately afterward and waited dreadfully for three hours in front of the ICU while the doctors worked. Their tension worsened when the doctor informed them that Jaiyana had slipped into a coma with no known date of waking up. Her chances of survival were minimal.
"Due to the accident, her brain has been badly damaged. The delay in getting her here deprived her brain of oxygen, resulting in ischemia. I'm deeply sorry, General El-Kabir, but your daughter might never wake up. Only a miracle can make her wake up."
Recalling the doctor's words, Safna burst into fresh tears. She blamed herself, knowing she had said mean things to Jaiyana, causing her to leave the house in haste. For the past two years, she had hated her daughter for the dumbest reasons, torturing her emotionally and even physically. Jaiyana endured every bit of it, never hating her mother in return. Now, her Jaiyana was suffering because of her ill actions. How could she ever live in peace knowing she was the cause of her daughter's suffering?
"Jaiyana, please wake up. Wallahi, I still love you. Even when I said I hated you, I was lying and deceiving myself. How can I hate you when you're the first person who made me a mother and called me 'Mummy'? How can I hate the person who stayed up all night with me when I was sick? The person who cried when I was in pain? The one who stood up for me when my own husband tried to beat me? I remember how you stood against your father that day and refused to talk to him for days despite loving him. How can I hate the person who gave up on becoming a lawyer to become an architect because that's what I wanted? I saw your passion for law since you were small, but you didn't achieve that because of me. Even after you became an architect, I saw the sadness in your eyes whenever you saw a lawyer. But you never showed it because you didn't want to make me feel guilty. You sacrificed a lot to make me happy, but I blamed you for your father's death while you were mourning him too. How bad of a mother am I? Wallahi, I've never loved anyone like I love you, Jaiyana! I love you more than anything and anyone! All the things I said to you earlier were lies. You are not a disappointment and never will be! Please wake up, my love. I'll never be at peace knowing I caused your condition. Please wake up, Jaiyana, I'm sorry, I really am," Safna finished, clutching Jaiyana's pale and bruised hand to her chest as she burst into tears.
Jasmina and Jahaan wept non-stop while El-Kabir, new to the information, trudged to where she sat and cuddled her in his arms.
"She will be alright, In Sha Allah. Jaiyana is a fighter. She will wake up. I will start preparing for her to be moved abroad for proper care. Stop crying, my love," he pacified the hysterically crying woman. Auwal, who was silently watching by the door, pitied the mother and daughter, but he pitied the daughter more.
Aabaan, who couldn't be in the room due to the presence of a certain someone, heard everything unfolding in the room thanks to a hearing aid connected by Auwal. He clenched and unclenched his fists, swearing to kill whoever put his love in that condition. He had promised to protect her with his life since the day she was born. At that moment when he held her in his arms, he knew she was his to protect alone. He had been doing just that until someone decided to play cards with his love. The accident wasn't normal; it was a conspiracy, confirmed by his PI. And by Allah, he wouldn't rest until he found and killed whoever was responsible. He didn't realize he was crying until he felt the warm, wet trickle down his cheeks. It was the first time in sixteen years he had cried. Aabaan knew he was no longer strong as he had pretended to be for sixteen years. He cried for his Jaiyana, his Jaan, his betrothed wife, for the pain inflicted upon her.
.....UNKNOWN RESIDENCE,
ABUJA, NIGERIA.Laying naked in bed, all cuddled up, the man and woman laughed heartily, probably satiated by the pleasure they had just given each other. The man rolled out of the large bed, still naked, to the coffee table and poured wine into two tumblers before making his way back to bed, all the while, the lady staring with pure lust and adoration. He handed her the tumbler, kissed her, and cuddled her back.
"Today is a really good and bright day to celebrate," the woman laughed, and they clinked their tumblers together before gulping their drinks.
"Indeed. I'm so elated! It's a good thing to know she will never wake up! Poor stupid girl," the man said with a smirk.
"That scumbag thought he could outsmart me. Doesn't he know he's just a young man?" she addressed the rhetorical question to her companion, who shrugged with a laugh in response.
"If he knew just how much I hated seeing his damn face! Ughhh, I'll never rest until I see him dead, six feet buried underground!" she screeched.
"We won't rest until we finish them all, Sugar. All of them, just a matter of time," he smirked, giving her mound a squeeze, earning a moan of pleasure from her.
"I'm surprised," she laughed before continuing. "He claims to be smart, but he couldn't even find his enemies within his midst," she said, and they both laughed.
"Well, perks of playing your card well," he laughed, and they joined their lips together, only breaking apart when they needed oxygen.
"Speaking of, how's the fool of your husband? That damn useless man," he screeched while she shrugged.
"He's fine, still useless that he only lasts ten minutes in bed," she grimaced while he burst into a heartless laugh.
"Reason why you find solace in me, Sugar?" he laughed again, and she smiled.
"Of course, my D! The angry part is that I must initiate it. He could go weeks without touching me and wouldn't be bothered. Had I had a co-wife, I would have said she played witchcraft on him to stop touching me, but that's not the case. He's just a useless piece of shit who doesn't make use of his manhood well and only cares about his business. I would've long left him if it wasn't for that massive wealth," she shuddered.
"I've been telling you this. Let's transfer all that massive wealth to you, then you could finally leave him once and for all."
"It's not as easy as it seems, D. That man is smart; he knows what he's doing. And let's imagine I do that—my children will forever hate me, and I really don't want that to happen. I love them."
"After all, he's nice. His only problem is the other one, you know. And since I have you, I think I don't have any problem, do I?" she smiled.
"Not at all, Sugar. Besides loving his wealth, you also love him. Don't argue with me," he warned, and she laughed.
"I am bound to, D. We've been married for so long, and we have kids together. Not to talk about all i had to do before getting married to him. And perhaps you also have a family you love more, but you know I love you, right?"
He smiled. "I know, Sugar, and I love you more. Let's exercise more, what say?" he winked, and she laughed, patting his shoulder.
"Sure, you pervert," she laughed and snuggled into him as the lights went off.
