-Stone's POV-
Me, Vinnie and Skipp were digging through the trash cans of the dirty alleyways in between buildings. We were looking beans, which somehow we lost from their bean corner which was labeled in big letters: BeAn CorNer pUt bEaNs herE. We had been searching for hours with zero luck. Vinnie threw an empty van onto the ground in frustration. "I swear we put the cans of beans in the bean corner!" "Maybe you threw them out?" Skipp questioned. "Hey, a good scrap would never throws out a can of beans, especially not one that's eight ounces of pure-hickory smoked bliss." We continued to search until it was too dark outside to keep searching. Vinnie then created a small fire with in old tin barrel and some wood she found in the trash. But since it was snowing, we had to relight it multiple times since it kept getting put out. After a few more minutes of trying, we're finally able to keep the fire going. "Well, guess we're eating shoes again." I said as I took a drink from a bottle. "Or we could steal some valuables from the rich. It's not like they would notice anyways." Vinnie said as she held her hands out towards the fire. "I don't know, Vinnie. We could get caught and end up in serious trouble," Skipp objected, shaking his head. "We can do that tomorrow. We don't have much to lose if we get caught anyways." I said as I lit my 17th cigarette of the day. After a while I put the dying fire out and we all cuddled up on the one mattress that we all shared and snuggled under the thin, patched up quilt we shared as well. "Skipp," I said, putting out my cigarette on the snow covered ground. "You better not take the damn blanket again. "I won't." Skipp said as he yawned and rubbed his eyes sleepily.
We finally drift off into sleep, but it's far from relaxing. The ground is hard and uneven, our mattress a thin blanket, and the sounds around us constantly kept us alert. But we didn't care, we're used to it. We sleep for a few hours before being awoken by the sound of the town of Ramshackle waking up.
Why do they wake up so damn early? It's not like they have anywhere to be since other people do things for them. I thought as I sat up and rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes. The streets got louder with people chatting and arguing as the whole town started to wake up from a deep sleep.
As the sun gradually rose over the rooftops of the town, casting its warm and golden light over the snow-covered streets, we slowly began to get up from our makeshift bed. The cold morning air stung our exposed skin, sending shivers down our backs as we slowly made our way out of the alley and onto the main street.
We walked through the bustling market, our noses filled with the scents of freshly baked bread and roasted meats. We passed by small food stalls, each with their own unique flavors and scents that enticed both the eyes and the nose. We couldn't afford to buy anything, but it was cool to see all the different food and goods that were available.
As the day went on, we continued on with our own little tasks and chores. We scavenged for anything that could help us survive another day, always on the lookout for a good scrap to sell for a few coins.
As we continued our search for scraps, we noticed a group of wealthy-looking individuals walking toward us. They were dressed in fine clothes, carrying expensive-looking bags, and talking loudly among themselves.
Vinnie then approached the men from behind and stole a wallet from one, a few coins from another, and some jewelry from the third.
She snuck back to me and Skipp to show us her findings.
"We're eating good tonight boys!" She said, holding the findings close while running ahead. "Vinnie wait! We can't get caught with the jewelry!" Skipp said as he chased Vinnie down the street. I swear these two are going to be the death of me.
