➴"This is organized." On the edge of her rather small bed sat Remy in her dorm room. She typed at her laptop furiously, attempting to track a series of unusual cyberattacks targeting small businesses in New York City. Each attack was precise, surgical.
"You still working on that project?" Jess, an art major who Remy had been living with since the beginning of the semester was lounged on her bed across from Remy's, sketchpad balanced on her knees.
"Somethin' like that."
Jess rolled her eyes playfully. "Just don't forget to eat. Or, you know, sleep."
"Sleep is for the weak.." Remy joked. "I'll be out late tonight."
"Be careful."
"Always am," She insisted.
The attacks were orchestrated to cause confusion and financial loss among business owners. By targeting small businesses, Remy thought, the attackers aimed to create a sense of fear, distracting authorities from their larger plans. This was a cover-up.
Later that night, she slipped out of her dorm, her bag slung over one shoulder. Inside were various devices and gadgets she'd crafted over the years.
Remy was not some caped crusader or anything. She didn't go around looking for trouble with a mask and a secret identity. She was but a girl with a talent for hacking and a hobby for thwarting cybercriminals. It wasn't like she was a vigilante or something. That would be ridiculous.
She made her way to a tech firm's headquarters, a likely target for the next attack. As she approached the building, she noticed something unusual— a figure in dark clothing scaling the side of the building with exceptional agility. "Who the hell are you?" she whispered, more to herself than anyone else.
Before Remy could investigate, the figure disappeared around the building. Curiosity piqued and Remy followed cautiously behind her.
"Hey!" Remy whispered harshly.
The figure, startled by Remy's sudden appearance, spun around in fear, her eyes wide with apprehension.
Remy took off in pursuit of the woman. As she rounded a corner, her breath caught in her throat at the sight of a group of menacing individuals. Instinctively, She ducked behind the safety of a nearby building, her mind racing with possibilities as she observed the unfolding scene with growing apprehension.
As Remy watched, the people pursuing the masked woman emerged from a van adorned with the logo of a company the cyber attackers were allegedly laundering money through. She dropped her bag and with a surge of adrenaline, she leaped into action, engaging the attackers in a struggle.
Her movements were swift, each punch aimed with precision as she fought to defend the woman in admittedly strange attire from their relentless assault.
Just when it seemed like Remy might be overpowered, a new presence made itself known— another figure in black.
Instinctively, Remy moved to intercept. She tensed as she prepared to confront their newcomer. But before she could reach him, he turned to face her, revealing a familiar face that sent a chill down Remy's spine.
The attackers fought relentlessly, their numbers overwhelming. Remy ducked through the barrage of punches and kicks, her movements graceful.
Previously distracted, Remy's attention was drawn to a commotion in the alley nearby. She glimpsed a man, the same man who'd been helping to fight off the attackers, shoving the woman into the shadows, his movements forceful. Without a second thought, she dashed towards the alley, intent on aiding the woman.
before Remy could reach the woman, the man intercepted and she found herself knocked to the ground.
He swiftly removed the woman's mask and disbelief washed over him. "Come on," he muttered, unamusement evident in his expression.
"You're Hawkeye!" the woman exclaimed, her voice filled with recognition and awe.
The man's expression hardened. "Who are you?" he demanded, turning to face Remy, "And who is she?"
"Hello," Remy waved, wincing as her other hand worked to cup a wound on her abdomen.
