The sun seemed to whip the three children's backs. Everyday, their father, Kaisen, forced them to chop trees outside. The voice still echoes in Desi's ears, "Today. you must chop down a catalog of 50 trees! Or there shall be no supper." With every chop of the tree, anger boils in Toaster's heart. Toaster throws down his ax, "I can't take this anymore! I'm exhausted!"
"B-but Toaster! You mustn't! Suppose father says we shall not have breakfast also?" He looks up at his elder sibling. "We have to try at least, desi. We must ask father for less work." The two walk inside the house and to their father's study. Desi and Toaster look at eachother, a bit of worry in their eyes before gently pushing the door open. "Yes, children? What must be the issue?"Toaster runs up to his father's desk, "Dearest father! Please lower your standards!" he pleads, his blistered hands clasped together with his face drenched with sweat. "Yes father! We yearn to rest inside!" The other sickly victorian child stood behind him shivering hoping their father would be forgiving this time. "Foolish toaster, you plead as if the work is agonizing!" Vincent scoffs. "Shut the guck up, respectfully." Toaster says, not even turning to look at his sibling, Vincent.
Toaster seems to realize that his father was right. They had to work for their catalog. "You're right, father.. less yapping, more grinding! We got a catalog to fini-"
"Foolish child, quit being silly, you can't even grind a single metal pennie!" His father snaps. He feels embarrassed, ashamed, being brought down by his father.
Kaisen grabs his son's wrist. "Look at me." He fearfully looks up at his father. "How will you improve if you're too afraid of advice, foolish offspring." Kaisen scoffs. In fear, his son violently slapped his hand away, and scurried out of his father's study. "Child, come back here!" He yells, his voice full of wrath.
In a matter of time, Ace walks into the room after hearing such commotion. "What is all this bickering!" He exclaims. Kaisen looks at Ace, a disappointed look on his face.. "My love, the children are misbehaving." The two children left in the room slowly turn to look at their other father.
"Oh? They are?" He asks in disbelief. "They won't listen to me! I only wish they could be as perfect as you, my sweet." "No! That isn't true father!" Desi exclaims. "He has us work! Look at our hands, father!" Desi spreads out her calloused hands. "No such thing has occurred!" Kaisen yells, as if retaliating. "Come on darling, how about we go enjoy ourselves? Let's forget about this." He slowly makes his way to Ace, and holds his arm, but he quickly shifts his arm away. "I refuse."
"But please! I'm so drained of your love. Don't you love me, ace?"He pleads as Ace turns to walk out of the study room. Suddenly, Kaisen exclaims, "But I've become bearing with a child!" Ace stops in his tracks, "What?"
"I told you of the news last week, I can't believe you! We've had so many children together!"
Footsteps can be heard getting louder from down the hallway. A strange woman peeks her head into the room, "A-am I interrupting something?" Kaisen turns into a fit of rage. "I can't take this! These foolish children I've spent my life raising!" He points to Ace and the children. "And YOU! You never aided me with any of our children! These things have ruined my life!"Trembling, Desi turns to her father.. "B-but you said I was the best thing that ever happened besides Ace, father! As the eldest..I-"
"Don't show such pathetic display! I'm famished..""My apologies, since did we bear so much child?" Ace questions. He seemed to have forgotten it all. Kaisen's face turns paler than it already is.. "A-are you alright? Do we need to send a letter to the doctor?" He starts to panic.. "Enough! I've had enough, which one of you cursed your father?" The children tremble in fear as Kaisen throws a fit. "I'm drained of positivity, I must leave." said Ace. Kaisen clutches onto his husband again. "Darling, wait, n-"
"I've had enough!" Ace exclaims, and storms out of the room. "I- I love you.." Kaisen mumbles, his eyes welling with tears.
"F-father no!" Desi cries out, she yells for her father over and over again. Ace looks inside the room one last time, and leaves.
Desi runs out of the room, in an attempt to chase her father. "Father? FATHER PLEASE!" As she runs past her and her siblings room, she sees a figure that seems to be floating. *I-is this witchcraft?* She thinks to herself.. she slowly creaks open the door. She shrieks, so loud that the neighbors next door could hear it. Kaisen runs over to the room, and he bursts into tears. "O-oh my! T-this can't be true! MY BABY!" He screams in agony. There it is, his second-eldest hung by the galvanized square steel that made his ceiling.
