I left Padre's room, but this time, I didn't lock the door. As I went upstairs, his words played in my head: "Maybe it is time to use your power as the Don of two clans." He had advised. I know he is right because ever since I became Don, my allies multiplied all across the world.

I entered madre's room to find her still sleeping. I sat beside her and watched her resting peacefully. If I didn't know any better, I would think she was the sweetest thing judging by how calm she looked in that moment. I brought my hand to her face, a little hesitant to touch her, but I got over myself and started caressing her forehead.

"We never really understood each other, mamma," I said in a whisper.

Despite giving birth to me, she and I never spent time together nor did I get to bond with her. Her golden child, Antonio took all the spaces in her heart. I know that it doesn't matter now, As a young boy, I was always told to toughen up and not complain or cry about anything. I had to act like I didn't care that she played favorites between him and me. It started with small things like her giving him the bigger piece of cake even when it was my birthday, or giving him more portion of food at meal time. Then, it grew into bigger things like when he slept with my first girlfriend. Madre told me to let him be happy and that I was just being entitled. But the worst betrayal by far was that she knew what Antonio and Mira were up to behind my back, yet she covered for him.

I retracted my hand from her face, but suddenly, I felt her grab my arm. She opened her eyes a little and looked up at me... "Patrizio, mio figlio," she cooed.

"Madre, you need to rest"

"I am sorry for everything, find a place in your heart to forgive your Pappa and me, per favore." After managing to say this, her eyes closed again and she fell right back into a deep sleep.

I felt the ice walls around my heart melt down. I can't believe she just said that. Still uncertain about her words, I got up, adjusted her blanket, and went out.

I walked toward my room, thinking about what just happened. It's crazy because sometimes, all it takes is an apology. Now, in retrospect, we fought over meaningless things. Our first major fight was about Mira, but that too has become meaningless to me.

I finally arrived in my bedroom, too tired to think straight. A good sleep would do me good. I paused in my tracks when I saw someone in my bed... Veronica, my breath of fresh air.

She looked gorgeous in those red lingerie, showing off her curves. My god, she is so beautiful! Breathtakingly gorgeous!

Lord knows it's been so long since I felt her warmth. Not to sound like an ignorant male but her body didn't look like she had just given birth, but they say every woman's body is different, so who am I to argue?

She took slow steps to me, agonizing me with anticipation. She got to where I stood and threw her arms around my neck. I kissed her lips, allowing myself to get submerged in the feeling. My mind wandered as our tongues glided against each other. There was something familiar about her taste, her sweet sweet kiss, I knew it all too well. The thing about this taste was... it wasn't Veronica's.

I broke the kiss and looked into her eyes. For the first time, I saw her face closely. I noticed a faint grey coloration around her iris. She had brown contact lenses to make her eyes the same color as Veronica's.

My God!

I took a deep breath. Just stay calm Patrizio, do not react.

She was watching me quietly but I could see in her eyes that she was alert, whatever action I take now will be a deciding factor.
